This Special Edition of the DIVAS race series features a beautiful run through Temecula wine country, and includes fun perks including an LED tutu, feather boa and tiara, not to mention complimentary wine tasting! Oh, and yes, there are some very fast runners (not me) who run it competitively.

STEEP downhill for most of the race. By the halfway mark, my quads were hamburger. They bus you from Azusa Pacific College up the entire 26.2 miles, which would be a pretty drive if it weren’t pitch dark on the way up. If you do it, get on the first bus and run into the store/cafe for a warm place to sit and drink something hot while you wait for the race to start. (Bring some money; they don’t want you to hang out without buying stuff.)

I have run this race ten times and want to do it again. Unless you are a super competitive/fast runner, don’t worry about your time – just enjoy the scenery, camaraderie and the ambiance of a weekend in Catalina. Weather can be anything from hot and sunny to a hailstorm. Last four miles are downhill, which is all your legs can do at that point. A must do!

This is a local phenomenon – the race is part of the annual UFO Festival which takes place every 4th of July weekend in commemoration of the alleged UFO crash in Roswell in the 1940’s. Costumes are encouraged. A visit to the UFO museum after is a must.

A great race in a great city! Course snakes around, which makes it possible for your friends to see you at multiple spots. Sign up as a group and pay a little extra for the group staging area – gear drop, port-a-potties and post race food and massages.

Fabulous course with great views of historic spots in D.C. The brief but mean hill just before the Iwo Jima Memorial is a killer, but worth the bragging rights. MORE

Born and raised in NYC, this is my hometown race. I have run it multiple times and would do it again in a heartbeat. The highlights include the start over the Verrazano Narrows Bridge, the roar of the crowd as you come off the 59th Street Bridge, and the fall leaves through Central Park.
