This was my first Trail race in that area and I didn’t really anticipate the number of steep climbs involved, but the backcountry behind the Snoqualmie Ski area had some pretty nice views. The trail was marked well, though sometimes needed a second look to see where to go next. Worth doing again in a few years.

The starting point on beach with great views of the Strait of San Juan de Fuca and mountain backdrop and the end point on a beach outside of Friday Harbor avoid a have it seen before during the run. The landscape of the course is also very varied and scenic, with lots of pastoral views all across. The undulating landscape gives some challenges running for the hills (literally ;-D) but often enough a nice view opens up that way.
And staying on the island, riding bikes or walking around allows for great recovery.

as a first timer, wasn’t sure what to expect; there is a lot of variety in landscape and scenery, surfaces to run on (asphalt, concrete, gravel, forest paths) and of course the ferry ride from Seattle at a nice sunny day is hard to beat in terms of skylines and scenery. There are a number of long, sometimes tough inclines and declines to go through, overall the course was manageable, if exhausting a couple times.
The initial trail when starting from the ferry was quite crowded due to space, so it took a while to align to my pace.
As almost always with ORCA runs, well organized.

Great starter race to test out a Half (was my first Half in a longer while).

The trail mostly goes along a former railway corridor, with most of it in forested sections until it goes into an “urban” section within North Bend itself.

Its a one way race and mostly downhill, though the elevation drop is so gentle as not being really that relevant. The participants are brought to the starting line, near a state park and there are a lot of participants apparently (>1000).

Worth doing again.

Well organized, liked the focus on avoiding trash by not using papercups for the stations and the flower honey bee mix and flower pot as trophy. MORE
