Well organized raced and amazing volunteers. This race offered mail out bibs which I opted for and was convenient for my travel plans.
The volunteers and race support were the real stars on the course: always cheering and plenty at the aid stations.
Scenery was nice going through more rural neighborhoods. There were no road closures and cars were frequently on the course. Runners were running with traffic which made it very nerve-wracking hearing cars suddenly zooming behind you. Some cars were courteous to runners on the course and others were not.
Post race was nice. Not a lot of variety but good energy.
Heads up to slower pace runners, this race has a minimum pace of 13:44. If you do run on the slower side, I recommend a different race.

Half course was really nice the first 6 miles running through downtown Charleston then it was straight 6 mile run through an industrial area. Course was flat and on paved road.
Finish line and post race party was a mess. It was very cold (in the 30s and windy) and I saw 5k runners had Mylar blankets and was in need of one at the finish line but nothing. Some volunteers handing out medals and water bottles being a free for all. Everything was a line, getting food, swag, shuttle, and no way of know where the start or end of a line was. Instead of having runners get their swag and food tickets at packet pick up, runners had to get it at the post race which is probably was it was so chaotic. I got my swag and left because I was not going to keep going from line to line.
Parking was a mess. The venue was too small for the amount of runners and spectators there. My family came to cheer me on and had to park a mile away from the venue and they arrive at 6am.
Small changes would make a big difference but I definitely would avoid this race company. Other runners told me that this race company has not done well with other races they have organized.

Well organized race and good communication from the race company. Packet pick up was easy and simple but not much besides some additional merchandise. This race offers a race challenge called the double down if you run the 5k on Saturday and the half or full on Sunday. I took part in that and was great.
The start and finish line are different. This race does not loop or out and back. I enjoyed how it was organized. Runners parked at the finish line then were bused over to the start line. Start line for the half and full are different and race officials did a good job making sure runners got on the right bus.
Half course is along the coast and flat with a highway ramp at around mile 11. Weather was odd but not bad, 60 degrees with 90% humidity and overcast, for the south that’s manageable. Quiet along the course and a waffle house every 1.5 miles.
Lots of food and goodies at the finish line and good energy.

What an amazing experience! Plenty of swag, hospitality, and goodies from Amish country.
Well organized race with an amazing atmosphere. I ran the 5k and half to complete the firemen’s challenge which was worth the extra miles. No medal for the 5k but race tee included as well as campfire smores and if you do the challenge you get extra swag. This year was a thermal water bottle. Lots of course support, great farm scenery, and great atmosphere. Plenty of rolling hills then a few big ones around mile 9 to 10 and no shade due to all the farms. Tough for someone from Florida or any flat area.
The ultimate swag is the half medal. An actual horseshoe used within the community and retired to become the half medal. I truly understand why so many people have this race on their bucket list and come back year after year. Remember to watch out for road apples on the course (fun Amish saying for horse poop)

Small race in a small town. Race was capped at 350 runners and the day of the race had 140 runners. The course takes place at Brown Mountain beach resort which features lovely mountain views, running along the river, and lots of forest. Very limited cell and internet service.
The course is out and back on packed gravel/ dirt road. The course was an active road and not closed for the race. Some cars were careful and others were not.
Course had water stops along the course and the finish line had a BBQ lunch and beer from the catawbe brewery. Swag is minimal: Medal is the only thing included with registration. Race tee available for an additional cost.
With the race location being more rural there’s limits on stay options. For lodging I recommend staying at Brown mountain resort’s yurts or in near by Morganton which is 20 minute drive away.

Great well organized race and packet pick was easy. This race does not have an expo just a packet pick up the day before. The packet pick up did have a few other items for sale (two shirts, a sweater, and glassware) relating to the race.
Race is in the downtown area so parking garage charge an hourly rate but there is free street parking around the area.
Course does a nice job taking you around the Portland area with lots of ocean views. After running a lot of big races, this race had a small town feel. this race has a big race production with a small town charm.
Mostly flat course with two hills at mile one and mile 10. Mile 10 hill definitely hits you, especially being next to a cemetery.
Beer garden by Shipyard brewing company with two complementary beers and plenty of water with snacks.

Post race goodies was great: so much good food and beer.
Of course the medal was huge and amazing. since it was the 20th anniversary the medal was a huge ’20’ with tiny versions of all the past years medals

Weather was tough with rain the whole time in 50 degrees but I managed a personal best.
Major issue at this race were the bibs falling off. I noticed bibs all over the course and managed to catch mine before it was lost to the course. Race organizers claimed not being able to get the proper material but it just seemed they were just being cheap.

I have run this race several times and always enjoy it. It’s well organized, good communication, great swag, and amazing medals. Challenge medals for consecutive years are a big incentive to come back. For the half marathon there are two course options; If you want to take it easy then south and if you want to run and not dodge walkers go north.

Nice view of the balloon flying in the sky during the race. Course was an out and back from a field which finding in the morning was difficult. The location had no markings, signs, or lights. It’s 5am, a pitch black field, and nothing else. Better communication and organization is needed.
For those who come from below sea level, like Florida, arrive a few days early and get altitude sickness meds. Even with the meds I had to take it easy.

Nice course through Denver and great live music throughout the course. The hills were not too bad and that’s coming from a Florida girl. I did the challenge to get the remix medal which was super cool mini guitar. Medals were great and very Denver appropriately themed.
