I’ve heard great things about Flying Pig and I was not disappointed. As a back of the pack runner I found it to be very back of the pack friendly. I was especially impressed by the volunteers and crowd support. Due to rain and thunderstorms on the day of the marathon and half marathon, I expected the streets to be empty. However the city still came out to cheer us on. I know some felt the race should have been cancelled or delayed, but as I traveled to Ohio and this was my Ohio race, I really didn’t want to miss it. I actually did hear the shelter in place announcement ( I believe most did not from what I’ve read), but continued running as no one else around me stopped. I figured I am a grown adult and made the choice to continue. I didn’t find the hills to be as bad as I have heard. I was impressed with all of the water stops and food options along the way, not just for the half marathon, but for the 5 and 10Ks as well. Plenty of crowd support for those races as well. This is definitely a race I would run again.

This was a no brainer choice for my Arkansas race. Of course I wanted that huge medal for running the marathon.
I loved that they offered the early start for people who would take 6:30 or more to finish. That way we could finish in the middle instead of the end. And another great perk due to the early start, no lines at the Porta Potties at the beginning of the route.
There were hills, but they weren’t too bad. Crowd support along the way was wonderful. Loved all the people out there. I recommend it.

I was terrified of the hills and the possible high winds, and was very afraid of the 6 hour time limit. And while it was rather hilly, at least the winds were a welcome cool down this year. It’s a definite bucket list race. The scenery is absolutely breath taking. I would definitely love to run this race again.

This was my first Half Marathon. I loved the Tiffany necklace at the end. Running through DC was awesome. I was so looking forward to running it the next year, but the discontinued it. I had hoped to perhaps run the one in San Francisco, but they discontinued that as well. Wish they still had this race. I’d love to do it again.
