I’ve done the Santa Hustle in Indy multiple times. The new course this year was absolutely awful. The first half of the race was just terrible, including unmanned water stops with no cups—just partially frozen jugs of water and no Gatorade made. It was cold, I get it. The water freezing, you can’t help. But not even having cups set ihr to runners could pour their own water? Ridiculous. Not to mention running through a couple homeless encampments didn’t really feel all that safe. I will make sure to check the course before I consider this race in the future. If it looks like it did this year, I’m out. Then the finish was already being taken down when I finished—under 3 hours. There is a 3:30 course limit. The last person that crosses at 3:30 paid the same race fee as someone who finished in 1:30–they deserve a good finish experience too. I’ve never see this race so poorly put together.

Fun race. Extremely well organized. So much fun! Nice trails. I’ve run 3 different trail races put on by 131 Event Productions, and they have all been fantastic. They have awesome tech shirts, great medals, free race pics, and snow cones at the finish line! They are well-organized with courses well marked and great aid stations staffed with wonderful volunteers. Races are reasonably priced and capped to keep the trails from getting too congested. I look forward to participating in more of their events in the future.

This is probably the toughest course I’ve run. Being from a flatter region, I was not prepared for miles 6-9 to basically be all uphill. That was also the prettiest part of the course, with a lovely view of the Ohio River, but boy, do not underestimate the difficulty of you are used to running hills. It turned out to be pretty warm and humid after a chilly Midwest spring, so that didn’t help, but the weather is unpredictable at best in the spring in the Midwest. Overall, it’s a good race. The expo was the best I’ve ever been to, and I’ve completed 27 half-marathons. The race swag was unbelievable.

I really enjoyed this race. It was far from my best finish thanks to the altitude, but the course was very flat (not easy to come by in Colorado), and very pretty. We ran by several landmarks in downtown Denver. It was a great way to see the city. Be sure to hydrate like crazy before you go (Denver is very dry), and take more fuel on the course than you think you’ll need. Entertainment along the course was fantastic.

It's a fast, flat course. I ran past a lot of downtown Indianapolis landmarks and through some nice neighborhoods. Beautiful course. Plenty of water stops. MORE
