The iCan Tri has been around for a few years but this was the first year with a new production company and race director. The addition of the Olympic distance was new, and it was also the first time it was the USAT Age Group and High School Championships. It was very well run, and the course was flat and fast. The only problem is the weather this time of year – the run was HOT. Also the timing company was not very accurate, but that’s not a reflection on the race.

Growing up, I heard the word “triathlon” but know as much about it as people who ask “how long is your Marathon?” Wildflower was the first race I heard about in 2002 that made me think “I want to do that someday”. Finally, someday arrived and I raced my 12th tri but 1st Wildflower in 2018. It totally lived up to 16 years of built up expectations. The race itself was seamless from start to finish. But what is special about Wildflower is the whole experience – the live music, the beer and wine tasting, the traditions, and the camping. Every triathlete needs to do this race at least once. I can’t wait to do it again!
