Capital City is a half marathon I would absolutely recommend to anyone.

For starters: website is incredibly detailed, with tons of information. Any question you could possible have can be answered on the website. Production team put lots of thought and detail into the website itself. Cost is fair for the size of the event.

Packet Pickup: Pickup was a breeze, in and out in 5 minutes. “Expo” is pretty small with just a few local vendors and some backdrops for pictures.

Swag: Tech T shirt and awesome drawstring backpack were given at PPU. Finisher medal was huge and heavy!

Course: Scenic tour through downtown Columbus starting at Columbus Commons, going through German Village, downtown past Convention Center, through Short North, around campus, past the Shoe, and back towards the finish line. Not a lot of hills, fairly flat. Plenty of aid stations, and tons of live music and spectators. Energy was high throughout the race!

Definitely a race I would recommend for anyone local in Ohio, and a great race for those wanting to visit the Buckeye State!

First time running in MB.

Bib pickup was easy. Was located at The Hangout at Broadway at the Beach. Quick lines for bibs, race finisher shirt was relatively long. A few vendors with shorts, shirts, BibBoards, socks, shoes, and gels.

Race morning parking was easy. Large lot at Broadway at Beach, short walk over to Pelicans stadium where starting line was. Elites and wheelchairs went off first. Then two corrals with both half/full runners in each. DJ at start line, music blaring. Set the tone for a good race.

Course (Half Marathon): Fast and flat course. Day started off very foggy for the first hour or so. Ended the day in full sun and humidity. Heard numerous full marathoners talking about how hard the heat/humidity was. Definitely could see how hard that would have been. Raced on the street, couple turns in first few miles, then straight for a long stretch. Area around Market Common definitely had the most spectators. Tons of crowd support in that area. Back towards a long stretch on Ocean Blvd where there were a decent amount of spectators as well. Finish line was same spot as starting line. A few photographers on course as well as finish line. In general the course was a little boring. Would be great if there were spots where you were racing oceanside, but I don’t know that is logistically possible.

Post Race: Post race party was pretty good. Various vendors (coffee, tropical smoothie, gear, etc.) 2 free beers after finish. Food was a little disappointing, just a pizza slice (that was cut small) and a cookie.

Swag: Medal is awesome! Seashell medal that opens to display a Myrtle themed inside. I also got the Bless Your Heart medal for completing this race as well as Charleston. Shirt was long sleeve. Extra swag was a beach towel.

All in all, a great race. Production seemed organized and communication was great. They provide an “Athlete Guide” on the website with all vital information. Course scenery is a little non-existent, as you run the majority of the race on long stretches of road.

Beautiful, flat course through Gulf State Park. 30mph winds on race day, but trees around course helped limit the damage. Smaller race, little to no crowd support (a few random spectators). Adequate hydration stations. Packet pickup was in a hotel meeting room with a local store displaying a bit of gear.

Combined this half with the Myrtle Beach half in March for an extra medal. January in Charleston was still COLD (20s at race time). Warmed up once sun came out. Flat, fast course. Decent amount of spectators. Adequate aid stations. Expo was at baseball stadium. T shirt was paper thin and very light pink.
