Beautiful greenery
Flexible, dedicated race director – we asked to start the race 30 minutes early & were accommodated. At one point they thought we were lost & cane looking for us.
Great temperature & dew point
Mostly shaded course (maybe 2 miles total are in the bare sun)
Peaceful (not crowded) – feels like you are out for a training run with supported aid stations

Overall a road/smooth dirt course, but the final 2 miles approaching the turnaround are paved with loose gravel.
We were expecting a loop course (based on the course map), but it was a loop course. This confused us, but may have been briefed during the official race start.

Aid stations every 2 miles stocked with volunteers, water, Gu, bananas, oranges, strawberries, goldfish, and mini pretzel rods. I found this to be an impressive spread!
Small race – 36 full marathoners, but you start with the 1/2 marathoners. So it feels a little more impressive.

Beautiful waterfalls, views of cattle farms, green foliage, & interesting rock formations

Cool medal – wooden

Volunteers – All but 1 of the aid stations were manned. Think about it – for a 36 person race, avg 2 volunteers/aid station is quite touching. Around mile 18, there was a lady who was sitting in her car because of the pouring rain. When she saw us approaching, she ran towards us with a tray of goodies. I immediately teared up, touched by the kindness.

Cars – There were cars on the route, but they gave you a very wide birth.

Hills – this could be a plus for some people. The hills on this course kicked my butt! I walked most of the ups and jogged the downs while trying my best to preserve my quads.

Pitchy roads – some of the roads were pretty pitchy, which contributed to sore feet & ankles post-race.

*Note: The 2019 course was detoured she to heavy rain & flood warnings. I’m not sure if the normal course includes the 3+ hills that kicked my butt!

Extremely scenic – excellent jogging tour of the island
Flat course
Nice soft long sleeve T-shirt (You don’t get those very often anymore!)
Mild weather (start 57, finish 50)
Great volunteers (ready to hand you whatever you need & direct traffic at crosswalks)
The Westin might be a bit pricey, but it’s super convenient to get to the race start, allowed our request for late checkout (3pm), & very nice.

Lots of curves (run lots of tangents)
Windy
Post race celebration is at 5pm. We were on the road back by then. I wish it was earlier; so we could have participated.

Flat, easy course
Good snacks on course – bananas, oranges, pretzels, bars
Frequent water & bathroom stops
Frequent shuttle (no wait time)

Tips
Limited eating options on the island (just resort food) – go to grocery prior
Arrive on island during daylight hours (island street signs not well lit)
Limited road access to island (anticipate heavy traffic during rush hour)
Thins out at half/full split

Breathtaking scenery
Spectacular finish Olympic- speed skating arena, Olympic torch
Spectators/Volunteers are phenomenal & make a day out of it

Tips
Book hotel early (pricey, we paid > $400/night for mediocre lodging)
Chilly T1 and loop 1 of bike course (We experience hail around mile 30). Disposable biking sleeves/raincoat for the first loop of the bike course will help you stay warm.

Easy swim
Single loop bike course
Fantastic scenery
Great hiking for after the race

Tips
Book hotel early (We spent $300/night for the Best Western)
The swim & bike will be comfortable. The run will be hot.
Drive the bike & run course prior to the race. Knowing the end of Snow Canyon will deter you from joining the masses who hop off their bikes.
