This is my 2nd Orca race. Cool medals, though the medals were delayed for this race. I really like how the Orca races usually offer events with a short race and longer race so everyone can participate. Birch Bay was beautiful, the smell, the breeze was all great. I did the nice easy and flat 15k. Would definitely run this race again.

Rolling hills on the outside of the Island. Too bad there isn't more view of the water during the run. Could have more photographers. Parking was easier than I expected. MORE

I was slacking in my preparation for a Half Marathon. Signed up for this 10k to give me a push. Turned out to be a really cool race. Really cool medal, Only problem is my coolest medal is now for a 10k. I have since done the Birch Bay Road Race with Orca running and plan to sign up for more with this organization.

My cousin pushed my into this race with only a month to train. I ran a marathon 18 months prior and had spent most of the time since then sitting around.

The run was great. Nice weather. They had decent booths at the event check-in. Free GU gels is nice. I do remember some views of the city from the highway, most of the time you are in town. Running uphill across that long bridge at the end was tough.

I never would have called myself a runner even though I did XC, wrestling and Track(1600M) all 4 years of highschool. 13 years later some friends started talking about running a marathons and something in me snapped. With 3 months to get ready I decided to sign up for this race that finishes in my hometown. I was completely out of shape with no plan or experience beyond 5k races in highschool. The training runs got less and less miserable until I actually started enjoying them. The night before the race I was so nervous and almost dropped to the half. Decided to go for it despite the doubt and finished which was my only goal. This race got me back into running again.

The Yakima Canyon is net downhill but there are 2 big stretches of uphill and the bigger one toward the end is a real killer. The race is well-organized, lots of aid and volunteers. The scenery is great, the road snakes along the river. There is lots of different views of the river, cliffs and hills. I remember seeing several giant eagle nests and having eagles gliding along the river next to me during this run. I am Writing this review 2 years after the run. I do plan to run this race again but with proper preparation and to finish with a respectable time.
