People are not kidding. Hills…then more hills…then more hills. But, boy, what a beautiful race. It was pretty humid this year though, which made it even tougher. It was a good challenge, though, and I felt like I had accomplished something when I was done. Don’t be fooled though, the hills don’t stop until the end (like every race I have done lately, it finishes with a hill).
The production was good, but nothing to write home about. The pasta dinner the night before was $40, which seems like it might have been good for most people. But they had almost no vegan options but pasta and red sauce, and that didn’t feel like it was worth $40. Also, the food at the end of the race was very sparse, and there were no vendor’s there. There really wasn’t much to do at the end. That being said, I enjoyed the race and recommend it for those looking for a challenge and some beautiful Vermont scenery (hills). Oh, it also goes right by the Von Trapp farm (from The Sound of Music) 🙂

This race was such a fantastic combination of beautiful scenery mixed with Olympic history and the small-won charm of the Adirondacks. The race starts on the speed skating oval in town and winds through the gorgeous countryside just outside of town. It was a nice mix of flat and hills, though I gave it 4 out of 5 for difficulty because of a couple of big hills, most especially the last .3 mi (which was brutal).
The production was also top notch. A Blackhawk helicopter did a fly-by at the race start and it just felt so festive. At the end, the runners food (included in registration) was the best and most varied I have seen (including plenty of vegan options) and the swag was awesome (the 20th anniversary medal was SO cool). Overall, this is one of my favorite races I have done so far and I definitely would go back.

This course is a beautiful fall course! Not overly challenging. A couple of areas with rolling hills, but nothing sustained. Had a great vibe at the beginning and a few food trucks (and beer tent) at the end and registration included a drink ticket and food discount at the end. This guys put on this race and the Fort Hill Brewery race in April and they really do a great job. I highly recommend this race!
