The first half was nice and cool, running down the canyon into town. The second half was full sun, houses on your left and a highway on your right. Not a lot of crowd support. Only one porta potty at every stop- so I had to wait to use it every time unfortunately. The pounding from this race really damaged my right great toenail, and for that reason I wouldn’t recommend this race- I think something with less of a drop would be less painful overall. Being from Iowa I’m not used to the altitude so that probably had a negative impact on my performance as well. Was shooting for 3:25 ended up with 3:44, most of that due to my own GI problems. Best of luck!

I was able to qualify for the New York City marathon with this gently downhill course. The race had a rolling start but you could also choose to start at either 7:15 or 8am, I chose the earlier option to keep cooler. The pebble trail was barely noticeable and didn’t hurt my feet. The website says that the GPS on your smartwatch doesn’t work, but I have an Apple Watch and mine worked just fine, thank goodness! Through the entire race there was only a 60 ft gain.

This was a wonderful fall race I did a couple years ago. I finished 2nd masters. After the race I thought it was pretty tough due to the rolling hills, but now looking back I think that was probably why I did so well. There was a lot of crowd support and it was all through lovely neighborhoods in Tulsa and went by the university. The weather was cloudy and cool, and rained a little. I ran with my running buddy, Cindy who is also running 50 states so that made it extra special!
