This race is one of those that you always hear about as a runner being exceptional. I specifically did not wear head phones because everyone says how great the crowd support was, however, I wish I had worn them. To me- the support- the crowd- huge factor for me. The crowd was there, but I have been in races with much more support (crowd/bands during run/hand outs) than what was here. The finish line was also disappointing. I felt like there was about 20 people cheering you in from the crowd close to line. I would expect there to be lines of this based on other races done and the recommendations read.
This was a well put together race. The swag was good- t-shirt, towel, poster. The expo was fine- I am not huge into the expo stuff, but they did have some good picture opportunities. The after party was nice. It felt a little smooshed, but it was a nice area. The starting line was also a little odd. They had speakers, so you could hear everything, however, it was not in a straight line and it also felt a little smooshed/awkward.
Would I do this again? Maybe. It is the same weekend as the Pittsburgh marathon, and I much preferred the Pittsburgh one to this with the support.

I have run this race several times, and I always enjoy it. There is fantastic crowd support from start to finish including bands and spectators cheering you on and handing out goodies- especially Carson Street- which is about miles 9-10, so it is GREAT when you are running the half because it can be the time you are starting to shut down. The start of the race is well organized, the expo is good- I am not a huge expo person, but there are great photo opportunities and lots of things there, and the after party is great.
You also get a tech shirt and other samples- which is fine, I have gotten more from others but it is a fine shirt each year I have gone.
Pittsburgh is a proud city and I think they create a marathon race weekend that supports this.

This is a VERY basic half. No expo, no corrals, no swag bags. You are running this if you are local or love a good scenery. I wish that Erie did more honestly because I feel like with the flat course and the location- it could really be popular.
You go the day before or the morning of to pick up a basic shirt and a random bib picked out for you. You place yourself where you want at the starting line, and you probably PR because the elevation is maybe 2 feet. It is a beautiful run around Presque Isle, but you aren’t going to have a huge crowd, which again, is sad because Erie COULD show up and I think they WOULD if this was made into a bigger event that it could be.
