Presque Isle is one of my favorite places to run, and it’s a gorgeous site for a half – one loop around the beautiful peninsula. The course is almost completely shaded and gets a gentle breeze from the lake. There were, I believe, 12 water stops, most of which also had gatorade, and at least a couple port-a-potty stops available. Medal was beautiful and the shirt is the softest and comfiest material. I enjoyed every minute of it.

Easiest half marathon course I’ve ran, very scenic and VERY flat. The fact it’s in July isn’t bothersome since the entire course is shaded. Only complaints go to the fact there wasn’t a finisher medal, only like a lisence plate looking reward, and the shirt didn’t say Presque Isle. Overall was a great race. They had wet, cold towels at mile 10 and watermelon at the end which was perfect.

I’ve run this several times and I’ll probably run it several more. For an inexpensive race, this really is a great event. The run consists of one loop around gorgeous, flat Presque Isle peninsula. At about every mile, you are greeted by enthusiastic volunteers giving you water, electrolyte drinks, & encouragement. Somewhere in the upper miles, you’ll be given a cold, wet cloth, which is a godsend on a hot day. At the finish this year, they had not only water, but also EXCELLENT watermelon, apples, and bananas. Although they used to have a big, wonderful picnic afterward, they did provide hotdogs & cookies this year. The Pros: Easy parking- Get there early & you’ll have no problem. Excellent course- Flat as a board. No way to make a wrong turn. Lots of water stations. Super-friendly volunteers. Excellent fruit afterward. The Cons: Definitely not enough portapotties at the start. Lines were super long and many people were still in line when the race started. The electrolyte drink on course is Gu Brew, which is very chemically tasting/horrible. The picnic afterward seems to have gone by the wayside. If you had never done this race in past years, you wouldn’t miss it. It was a good one, though. While the fruit afterward was TOP NOTCH, the hotdogs were so lousy they should have just been skipped. The shirt is a men’s tech shirt. It doesn’t have the race name on it, just sponsors on the back & 13.1 on the front. If you’re a woman, it probably won’t fit, anyway, so it doesn’t matter what’s on it. There was a problem this year & no medals were given out. Instead, we got plastic “Fast Finisher” license plates without even the name of the race on them. I don’t think anyone was happy with this. I don’t care if I don’t get a medal if I am not told when I signed up I’d get one. I guess they should have given a heads up that there was a problem rather than just making the weird substitution. That said, when I have gotten medals from this race, they have been pretty generic. All in all, I’d say if you don’t care about a nice shirt or medal, but you want a top of the line course with excellent support, do this one. You won’t be disappointed.

I was so looking forward to this run. A big part of running is getting that medal hung around my neck at the end. I work hard to get to that finish line. Every step is an accomplishment. I proudly display my medals. When I crossed the finish line at Presque Isle, I was handed a big white thing resembling a license plate! Not what I was promised on the registration page, and certainly not what I worked for! I am disgusted! I feel so bad for those who chose this to be their first half! Make this right. Send out decent medals if you want people to return to Presque Isle or to speak favorably about it. It is not “Bling”, it is garbage! So sad.

The run posted finisher medals in race description. They handed out these terrible screen printed licence plates????
When asked be MANY of the finishers about this snafu, they were all met with disrespect. Many drove several states away to add to their half collection to be met with snark and disappointment.
Will remove this run from my yearly list and encourage anyone else to do the same.
Beautiful scenery!

It’s a beautiful course and very flat. Nice place to go for a PR. However, parking is inadequate, no pre race instructions, not enough restrooms so people missed the start. The post race fruit was good but they gave us boiled hot dogs. 🤢. The very worst thing was that they said there were finisher medals and there weren’t. They gave us these plastic license plate things that don’t say anything about the race, the date, distance or anything. Whoever came up with the was definitely checked out. Participants are blowing up their Facebook site about it without any sort of response. Don’t plan on this race if you’re looking for an extra special commentation, like your first half or anything. But, hey, it sure was a pretty run!
