This was my first year to run this race and I definitely plan on returning again next year. This is a very flat and fast course with a nice scenic route built in around Lake Merritt. This race is also one of the three stops on the Golden State Half Series Challenge, which contains a series of three local Bay Area half marathons to complete, after which you receive one serious bling medal. The other positives are close free parking (if you arrive early enough) and free beer at the end, not to mention a serious bling medal of it’s own. The only negative is that this race is held in August, which can hold some of the hottest temps in the Bay Area. Here’s my valuable tip: do not but the very expensive VIP pkg. that claims to provide free close parking with more alcohol and food, because this all comes standard with the race anyway, along with the free and very close parking garage if you get there early enough.

This was definitely not my best B2B performance due to the extreme crowdedness of my starting corral and also the sun and heat factoring in as well. This was supposed to be overcast and cool, but instead it turned out to be very hot and sunny. Tip: When you register, fudge your finish time and pace to 45 min. or better to get Corral A….that appears to be what everybody else did!

Another flat and fast course with great race production and swag. This race is held in March, which is a perfect time to miss the extremely hot conditions of Livermore in the Tri Valley area. Serious medal with vineyard theme and plenty of unlimited free beer or wine at the finish line. Another positive is the very close free parking in the shopping center parking lot adjacent to the start and finish line (if you get there early enough). This race is also one of the three stops on the Golden State Half Series Challenge, with a very serious bling of a finisher medal of it’s own, once you complete that series. My valuable tip is that you don’t need to upgrade to the VIP pkg. on this race either, since the free parking is extremely close if you arrive early, and you also get the same free alcohol and food here as well with standard registration.

Absolutely the most awesome scenic course I have ever run with challenging hills and a beautiful run across the Golden Gate Bridge. Great swag including a huge iconic one of a kind finisher’s medal with free beer in the beer garden at the finish line festival. Nice quaint and intimate boutique race not being too over-crowed with runners. My only 2 negatives is that the event tech shirt be of a more modern tech fabric instead of the old obsolete waffle fabric, and I also didn’t appreciate having to pay Eventbrite a substantial processing fee on top of the registration.

This half marathon is held during the time of year when it is exceptionally hot in San Jose. Dull and non-scenic course is very flat and fast, which would be good to go for your PR. The production is huge but the swag is mediocre, but with a fairly nice finisher’s medal. You are only allowed one free beer at the finish line, and the vent tech shirt tee is made of waffle fabric. This is a good PR race if you don’t mind the heat and over-crowded course.

except for hayes hill, this was a flat and fast course. hayes hill was the only challenge for this course. if you are a serious runner, it is hard to avoid the costumes and take it seriously. I would definitely put this on your bucket list, but would take precaution to the amusement if you are a serious runner. You absolutely have to so this race at least once.

Awesome scenic course with challenging hills and a run across the actual roadbed of the G.G. Bridge, not along the sidewalk. Fantastic race production and medal, although the event tech tee is waffle fabric, it should be of a more modern Brooks tech fabric since they are the official event apparel supplier. This venue for the Rock n Roll series events is smaller than most so the course is not too over-crowded. Nice finisher’s medal and only one free beer at the finish line.

Minimal charity-run race production with no expo or over-hype. Boutique race with local and more experienced runners make for a course that is not too over-crowded. Held in Feb. for nice and cool temp. in S.F. with semi-scenic course through G.G. Park and along Great Hwy. Fairly flat and fast course good for local PR with only small hills in G.G. Park. Cotton event tee with great medal, considering this is a charity race.

This race offers the best swag of all, a nice embroidered hoody. The race is held in Jan. in S.F. which means it is very nice and cool. This race would make for a good 15k PR as the course is mostly flat and fast. You receive the event hoody and a tech hat instead of the tech tee and the medal is awesome as well. The course is fairly scenic due to the Great Hwy and G.G. Park.

This is by far the absolute best way to start and kick-off your Thanksgiving Day weekend. Mild Nov. temp. in San Jose make for a very flat and fast course that I heavily recommend for your 10k PR. Non-scenic course with no hills at all, but the city and fans in the crowd are great. Nice long-sleeve tech event tee, but made of waffle fabric with cool finisher’s medal, that’s right a medal for only a 10k. No elaborate production or expo as this is a charity-run race for a very good cause

This is my 2nd best PR for a 12k done a challenging course. The Hayes Hill is extremely difficult, but the rest of the course is flat and fast with fairly cool May temp. in S.F. Even though this race is extremely over-hyped and over-crowded, the race production is fantastic. If you are local to S.F. you absolutely have to run this race every year to try to beat your PR. The course is moderately scenic through downtown S.F. and G.G. Park, with the finish line on the Great Hwy at the beach. This is my favorite local to S.F. race just to have fun with no pressure to compete.

This is one of the very few local races that get to run across the G.G. Bridge on the actual roadbed of the bridge itself. The race gets my vote as the absolute most scenic as well as challenging course that is not too over-crowded with runners. Semi-boutique event capped with runners to allow optimal running and enjoyment. Awesome long-sleeved tech short, although made of waffle fabric, and a really cool and locally home-grown finisher’s medal unique to S.F.

Very hot and steamy temp. in San Jose during Oct. with an 8 am start, which needs to be at an earlier time to offset the hot temp. An absolutely non-challenging very flat and fast course, the fastest of them all. Non-scenic route but the city and crowded fans make up the difference. Fantastic race production with event tech tee, although waffle fabric, and nice finisher’s medal. Plenty of live rocks bands along the course provide the music and one free beer at the finish line. This is the race for your Half Marathon PR no doubt.

This race starts in very scenic and beautiful Sausalito going through the Marin Headlands and across the sidewalk of the G.G. Bridge. to finish in S.F.. This is the best race for your 12k PR with Bay to Breakers coming in a very close 2nd. Minimal race production and swag, cotton event tee with no finisher’s medal, as this is a charity-run race for a really good cause. Ample hills make this course challenging with plenty of scenery along the route, not too over-crowded either.

The absolute best way to start your turkey day, it was especially nice to PR. A non-scenic, no hills, no frills, no thrills course that is very flat and fast, in my opinion the fastest of them all. This is a course for your PR and it is a charity-run race for a really good cause. Mildly cool Nov. temp. in a great city San Jose with energetic fans crowding the route. This is a must race to run every year to try to beat your PR and contribute to their charity for a very good cause. This is my favorite 10k race hands down.
