The course is a loop, with a couple miles of incline right smack dab in the middle. But that challenge makes it all the more enjoyable. The aid stations were spaced out well, and the nice weather made for a great race day. But don’t take it lightly, hill training is encouraged to be able to complete this race in decent time.

Great race weekend all around. They run the Half and Full on separate days, on separate courses, so if you do the Chowdah Challenge, you get to see so much more of the Cape. I’ve done the Challenge a couple times, and have loved the challenge, the spectators, the aid stations, and even the easy bib pickup.

The course is flat, it’s out and back. It was really cold, and there was no shelter (we snuck into the bib pick-up area). Some of the turns are confusing, and if you don’t see any runners in front of you, it’s best to memorize the course so you don’t get lost. Otherwise, fun experience overall.

GREAT MEDAL, makes it all worth it. You have to do the 15k, though. The course was cool, somewhat challenging, but overall an easy run. Finishes at Petco, so you get to see a lot of downtown. Fun race, and great chocolate at the end and throughout the race. YUMMY!

They changed the course this year, which is a bummer, but it was still challenging. It was 3 different out and backs…kind of nice, but the old course is the way to go. They are reverting back to it in 2016, so it’s worth a shot! Overall, nice area to run in.

Serving runners out of trashcans that are hooked up to fire hydrants? NOPE.

Starting the Half marathon as the Marathon runners approach the half mark? NOPE.

Having the bib pickup and gear check in a casino that CANNOT handle that many people in addition to it’s regular business patrons? NOPE.

I got sick from the water, was in bed for a week after the race, after managing to get up off the casino floor because I couldn’t find another spot to curl up in a ball, and had no chance of making it to the bathroom, to my gear, or even into the fresh air for some relief.

Very unorganized and bad for your health.

Yes, there’s a mile uphill right at Mile 7, but it’s on one of the most state beaches in SoCal, and the rest of the race you are running with ocean views, so it makes up for it. Well organized, and a great run all around, from the hills to the views.
