Although this was my worst performance in a marathon due to heat and health reasons, the race was one of the best. The medical, police, and spectator sport was beyond any thing I’ve seen (and I’ve done some of the majors). This is what got me through a tough running day. The course was pretty and tough enough without being too hard. Every mile there was something new including a basketball toss and a mile of inspirational signs. The spectators were amazing. Every time I thought I needed something, they were there and ready from water, gatorade, wet towels, candy, picklejuice, and high-fives. Organization was excellent – roads were closed, medical personal rode back and forth on bikes checking on people, expo was well run, and communication was perfect. I can’t recommend this race enough.

This course is challenging in a wonderful way – very hilly. Charlottesville is a great city with so much scenery to offer. Unfortunately, the race doesn’t capitalize on this. Course only marked every 5 miles and occasional arrows on the footpaths. Volunteers tried to help but at one point I was sent in the wrong direction and finished a mile short of a marathon – I had to take a DNF for the first time to no fault of my own. A little bit of extra support and mile markings every mile would have avoided this. Plus there was a lot of little out and back loops through neighborhoods that could have been marked better. Roads were not closed and presented a danger. All that being said, the volunteers were kind and the police helpful.

Amazing three day staged race through national parks. The final day through Horseshoe Bend gives you vantage points not accessible to everyday visitors. Friendships are made along the way. Laid back but challenging. Every day brought a different type of race – the elevation of Bryce Canyon with the stunning views of the HooDoos, the slick rock and beauty of Zion, and the sand and awe of Horseshoe Bend. Slightly more medical support would be appreciated but overall incredible race organization. Swag is good too! Sweatshirt, t-shirt, three medals, bib boards, and more. My favorite running experience so far.

Ran this with my teenage son. The course was challenging – very steep first five miles but the view was so worth it. Everything about the race was beautiful and well organized. We stayed at the host hotel (which was good logistically but very overpriced for a loud and rundown room experience). Food is hard to find in the area but the race and the park are amazing.
