Though the weather wasn’t as warm as it normally is, the run was nice along the gulf coast. Very flat, so easy to keep a consistent pace. The climb on the exit ramp to end the race was a bit tough after no incline for the first 12 miles. Felt out of place, but the ending in the stadium was a nice touch. We stayed at the Beau Rivage so the logistics were great. It’s more of a destination run, so don’t expect many spectators.

Cool scenery and mostly flat course, but the humidity in April adds to difficulty. The first half was scenic running past Busch Stadium and around the Arch grounds, but features a major bottleneck by Laclede’s Landing going uphill. The second half had some course issues with a long down and back and a deviation due to potholes, but the crowds in Soulard were great. Production and merch left something to be desired.

Kansas City’s layout is perfect for a half marathon. The stretched city and course go hand-in-hand as you get to run through several major neighborhoods – The Plaza, Westport, Downtown, Power & Light, WWI Memorial – in one loop. The course has some noticeable hills over the first half and the last 2-3 miles has a steady incline. For marathoners, the back half is mostly neighborhoods, so less scenic or festive. Half feels like the way to go.
