The expo was in the Rehoboth convention center. There was only one volunteer per race handing out bibs and two volunteers per shirt so there was a huge bottleneck there. The for purchase race swag was surprisingly diverse for such a small race. The race swag bag featured a cotton t shirt, glassware with the race logo, and a magnet with the race logo. At the finish you receive a trucker hat. I would have rather received less swag and a technical t shirt.

The race started at 7 am for the marathon. It was very low key to get to the start and into your corral. There were pacers available and lovely to chat with.

The race started and ended on the boardwalk with a view of the ocean in Rehoboth. The race wound through the parks to the small beach towns in the area, even including a stop at dairy queen. There was little to no elevation other than the canal bridge near Lewes. Water stops were abundant and many featured snacks. The finish on the boards was fun and I feel like it was a great low key race to dip my feet into the marathon pool.

I live in DC where it is mainly flat and I have done some races that advertise hills. I was not aware of quite how difficult the hills would be for this race. Add in the gravel and a messy start and it wasn’t my best race. They did not have pacers and started the group/team runners before the rest of us which meant that a number over very slow people were in the front of the race. AWESOME t shirt though, an under armour long sleeve.

This race is a no brainer for me because it is a home race for me. The water stations are frequent and well manned. The race shirt and medal are wonderful. This is technically a well run race but missing the little details to make it an amazing race. First, the expo was poorly laid out which made the lines for bib pickups difficult. Second, they do not have corrals based on start time nor pacers (that I could find) to help people line up in their own pace area. This meant I spent the first 3 miles stuck without an ability to move (which was probably a good thing because I went home and spent the next 72 hours at home with the flu). Additionally, while DC is beautiful and we got the chance to run by some of the monuments the majority of this course lacks any real scenery or course support. The finish line also gets a little messy. The food for runners was not easy to find and I gave up and wandered home. The people are lovely but I will probably hunt for another fall half to do since this one was relatively unremarkable.
