I was within the cut off time limit for the half, but needed medical assistance. Two aid stations were already picked up. I had to walk on an injured foot to finally get to an aid station that was manned. Gatorade at all the aid stations was super watered down. It was gross and they ran out at many of the stations, before the half and full split. The water and Gatorade tables were too close together and people were all bunched up, with other runners trying to dodge around them. In the snack area, all that was left for any runner over 3:30 was bananas and a box of couscous! No chocolate milk, no cookies, no crackers, not even beer at the beer tent. Really disappointing for slow runners!

There were not enough snacks for slower runners. They had run out of chocolate milk and cookies for people that were 45 minutes or more on 5 & 10K MORE

This was my first time running the quarter. I had run the half twice. The scenery was really boring. Unlike the half, there isn’t much to see. It’s the last part of the full marathon course and it’s not great.

Since this race had no cut off time, I was shocked to get to the top of Diamond Head and there was no more water! I had to wait until Mile 11 to get water! Those stationed should be manned at least for 5 hours to accommodate your walkers and slow runners

This race had awesome scenery from start to finish. The aid stations were well stocked with Gatorade and water and there was one that even had burger sliders. The time cut off was tough. There are lots of DNFS, after Mile 7 because it is a hard cut off! The last hill in Balboa Park is killer. They say it’s only 200 ft elevation gain. I think 150 ft were that last hill! It’s a fun course, but if you’re a back of the pack runner, work on speed. Like I said, it’s a HARD CUT OFF

I always love this race because there’s something for everyone. There’s bands, great course support, fun swag and for the past two years, the Blue Mile at 9 mile hill makes running that hill all worthwhile. I love the fact that I was able to run my first and 50th half marathons here.

I love Cowtown, but if you are even remotely close to cut off time,, you run the risk of getting to unsupported aid stations or being on the course alone. The SAG will follow the last runner, but if you’re ahead of that one runner, you may be out there on your own. Be prepared to have your own fuel and water, if you’re a 6:30-7:00 marathon or ultra runner. Cut off is from gun time NOT chip time!!!

There were lots of hills on the back half of the course after Mile 11. If you are a slow runner, 6:30+ don’t expect manned aid stations after Mile 20. Many organizations packed up after 2:00, so there was no water. Thankfully, I had my own.

I decided to challenge myself and run a night run. This 25K was a 5K out and back that we ran 5 times! Ugh! Only water is provided on the course, but you can set up your own staging area and have snacks, drinks, etcetera. I have run this race twice and both times it was hot, and humid, even at 10PM. It’s fun to hang out afterwards. It’s an easy course, but gets very boring, after the 2nd out and back.
