This is not the easiest route I have run for a half marathon, but this is still one of my favorite half marathons. Packet pick up at a local running store was quick and efficient both years. Shirts both years are well designed and comfortable (liked the switch to red this year) and the medal is huge. Packet this year was more elaborate with items I have actually used. Race itself is a smaller one, parking is easy to find within a block and is free. Really do not need to arrive until a half hour before the race. Route is very cool starting off in Pocahontas Island then taking you through the various areas of the city. Actually liked the route change this year even though it meant not going directly through the battlefield-got one of the main hills out of the way early. Plenty of water stops and gatorade-much better this year as I recall in orecious year they seemwd to stop at mile 9 while this year there was one at 11. This is hilly but a great race for me to end the racing season.

Ran the 2019 Petersburg half marathon. The race started and finished in downtown Petersburg at Union Train Station. The course was very hilly with the first half net uphill and the 2nd half net downhill; even though the 2nd half was net downhill, there were plenty of rolling hills to keep you honest with your pace. Sprinkled around the course were Civil War reenactors and there were also a few staged at the start / finish line. Nice technical running shirts were given to all participants and the finishers medals were impressive. Plenty of American history to see in the area, making this a very enjoyable trip.
