This is my first international marathon race. I now understand why people would like to participate races in Japan. This is the most well organized race I have ever attended. The aid stations were amazing. Each station has water and energy drink. Besides bananas, it also offered all kind of local bakery and snacks. The event volunteers and people who came to support and cheer made the race even better. Love the experience.

Easy access to start and finish.
Very crowded but still moves smoothly.
Weather may be a little cold but very little rain during that time of the year.

Between Tokyo and Osaka, I prefer Osaka. The city itself is smaller and easier to get around in. The race moved to the end of November so the weather is cooler. And the food in Osaka is the best. The race course, like all big Japanese races, is nothing special as you are running in an city. But this iteration was fairly flat, the only big hill being a bridge you have to get over to get to the island where Mizuno is headquartered. The key feature of this race is the super aid station at around mile 20. Food and more food. If you are hungry after this, it’s your fault. The race is extremely well organized. The expo is huge, going through 3 halls. And public transportation is the best way to get to and from the start/finish.

If you want to do a big Japanese race with a many locals cheering you on Osaka would rate up there with the Tokyo Marathon.
The race expo was big and you can take a lot away from it. The race isn’t the most scenic but does go past a lot of Osaka highlights. The real experience is being able to face with 30,000 friends that can support you all the way.
