Small, local race that operates as well as one would anticipate. Custom t-shirt, bag, water bottle, and finisher medal for a pretty low fee. Finisher and age group medals weren’t super fancy but I’ve gotten much worse at much more expensive races. All in all I thought it ran smoothly. If you expect a huge race with lots of fan fare sure, you’ll be disappointed. But smaller races like this are really refreshing and foster a greater sense of community. Few complaints.

Small, local race that operates as well as one would anticipate. Custom t-shirt, bag, water bottle, and finisher medal for a pretty low fee. Finisher and age group medals weren’t super fancy but I’ve gotten much worse at much more expensive races. All in all I thought it ran smoothly. If you expect a huge race with lots of fan fare sure, you’ll be disappointed. But smaller races like this are really refreshing and foster a greater sense of community. Few complaints.

So, three days before the race, an email is sent out with a course change update! The course is now three 4.36 mile loops. HELP ME NOW!
I’m not a fan of loops but I mustered it up and surprisingly, despite all the confusing at the beginning, the course volunteers were very helpful in directing runners — especially with slightly different turns for half marathon and 5/10k runners. It could have been a disaster. I kind of just had to laugh.
This is no frills. The medal is nothing special. The race advertised a shirt, bag and water bottle. I got the shirt. The bag was from a simi valley turkey trot and no water bottle. No biggie but still … not what was advertised.
If you are looking for inexpensive, no frills chip-timed races, the “California Half Marathon” series is fine for that. Just don’t expect too much. 🙂
