This has been my PR 10k course for nearly the past two years, so I’m a little biased upwards here. The course is beautiful, with a waterfall (frozen this time) by a small lake/large pond and has a nice mix of rolling hills and flatish stretches. As a two lap T course (lopsided top right), there’s technically 6 out and backs (3 for each lap) but the good news is there’s always someone coming the opposite direction to cheer on/cheer you on and it races very fast for what it is. Had it not been for all the ice at the start line It would have been a 5-shoe production. The rest of the course was plowed, just seems like they forgot that part. Being as how it was in a traffic circle, seems like it could have easily been avoided by setting up the start somewhere else, especially since it was already “somewhere else” from where it normally is, but oh well. The tshirt was hefty and the medal was a nicely designed, heavy, quality piece. There were two water stations on the course, one on the long leg that you hit twice per lap, and one at the traffic circle that you hit twice per lap. You won’t be thirsty until the water freezes over, which it did quickly this time around with the recent arctic front that moved in. Nobody does warm Gatorade here in the winter. Odd. Parking is plentiful in the shopping center next door and all the roads are closed off completely for the race, so no exhaust to be sucking in from drivers in the next lane. Truly a grade A production, and one I look forward to signing up for next year. Hopefully by then they’ll find that plow.
Second time just as fine

So I already did a race from this set in a different location (Couple Shuffle Overland Park). I left a great review for the other one. If I had to choose only one, it may actually be this one. The 5k course is a single-T course, the 10k is two laps of it. The overwhelming majority of that race is the “top” of the T, not the vertical leg. I liked the tshirt and loved the medal last weekend when I earned it elsewhere in the set, so it’s still just as great. The course was a beautiful closed off road (both lanes) making the whole path from the start line to the finish nothing but race area. You pass a lake on the top left part of the T as well as what would be an overflow waterfall had it been rainy. There are hills, a couple of which I’d say may border on just more than “rolling” but nothing protracted and nothing punishing. it was a great way to break the monotony of a flat track and get back in the swing of the hill work some of the other races in the KC area requires. Gatorade was on the course, something that’s grown rare on a non-summer-race shorter than a half. and the volunteers were super friendly and motivated. Absolute “do again” race and I hope more races in the future take advantage of this great course.
