I highly recommend this race! The pre-race, corral, and post-race logistics are incredibly practical and welcoming for all travelers. The course itself is deceptively challenging but in a good way, boasting great road conditions and high-energy cheering sections. Although there are some narrow spots, the scenery is awesome. A crucial tip for runners: pace yourself and save energy for the second half, especially after the “big climb” to take advantage of the very fast finish. Just be sure to carry your own fuel, as GU gels were only offered at miles 18 and 20, though water stations were plentiful.

Pittsburgh was an excellent race in every aspect—from the seamless logistics and great expo to the entertaining city course and incredible crowd support through the various neighborhoods. This race is highly underrated, especially for out-of-towners. While the course is tough, it’s challenging in a rewarding way. With easy corral access, practical hotel/restaurant options, and a great expo, it makes for a perfect weekend. Get there early to enjoy the city—I’m so glad I ran Pittsburgh. I cannot recommend this race enough—it was top-notch from start to finish.

Offering something for everyone, this marathon delivers a premier, all-around experience. It is the perfect choice for runners seeking a fast course for a PR, small-town charm, stunning scenery, and an incredible race weekend. The finish line is unmatched, featuring an amazing post-race spread hosted by Wegmans. Because this is a smaller, popular race, book your plans VERY early. Make a vacation out of it by arriving Friday and leaving Monday to fully enjoy the town, especially the Corning Museum of Glass.
