Rock ‘n’ Roll New Orleans
Discriminates against half marathoners?

This was my 14th half marathon so I do have others to compare to. The expo was tiny compared to others I’ve been to. The race was organized well enough; I had no difficulty finding my corral and there were plenty of portajohns. However, MAJOR disappointment at the finish when we found out that the real food was ONLY for the marathoners. We got a banana, water, and a bag of chips at the finish but when we got in line for the red beans and rice we were told it was only for full marathoners. That is a first! Talk about being made to feel less than! I did go back to review the website to see if I missed that piece of information and there was NOTHING saying there would be no real food for the half marathoners. If you are going to do this then at least tell people — I would have put more snacks in my gear check bag! Being treated as “less than” was a real downer for me. This was my first Rock & Roll race and I expected more.

This was my first marathon. I picked it because this was a smaller race (thus less jumping around people, etc at the start) and because it is a combination of crushed gravel and paved surfaces. Once you are past the first few miles people spread out and you do not have to dodge around anyone. Pretty flat with some small changes in elevation (inclines) but no major hills. The scenery in the fall is gorgeous! My only criticisms would be lack of food for full marathoners (first real food station was at mile 20/22!) and the fact that you have to run past the finish, to complete the last leg and head back to the finish. So hard to see the finish RIGHT THERE and run by it! There is not a ton of crowd support until the end, but it’s a beautiful race and I will do it again (I’ll just bring more of my own food)!
