Pre race communication was excellent, including video strategy sessions by Coach Paul!
Expo race pack pick up was a very good experience. The volunteers were very patient and easy to talk with. They provided good instructions as the racer made their way through the maze of really diverse vendors/sponsors.
The swag included in with the race kit is incredible! Those gloves will come in handy!!!
The early morning bus ride was surprisingly very low stress. It was cool/cold at the pre-race waiting/parking area, but everyone was given an emergency blanket as part of the swag, along with the gloves for cold hands. This kept us all very warm during the wait for the start of the race. There were plenty of porta-johns at the site (plenty). The DJ was rocking, and the bananas were ripe and a good addition for a pre race snack. The course was beautiful! The sun was rising at the start of the race, and all the support along the way was perfect for me. The hill at mile 11 is sure to make you grunt a little (me…alot), but it reminds you how human you are. After that little rise, you head slightly downhill for the homestretch!! Plenty of post race amenities like wet towels and chocolate milk (and cookies, and water, and beer!), and you get to have your race performance print out card created while you watch, mesmerized by the technical efficiency and motor dexterity of the smiling computer gurus in the tent!!
