There are aid stations every mile and a half, the pre-race expo is set up really well, the course is mostly flat with a long hill at mile 9, and it takes you through some great parts of Fort Worth history and scenery. But the post-race was horrible this year. For some reason, the food was moved out of Will Rogers where it had been in previous years, and there was 1 solitary line for post-race food. It moved so slowly that many race finishers were stuck in line in a bottleneck for 10 minutes or more. Normally, I don’t mind waiting but I think it’s a bit cruel to keep people who just finished a half marathon standing in the same place, unable to stretch or get post race snacks in a reasonable amount of time.

Due to icy trails and roads, the 2015 full marathon was cancelled. The half marathon was clear enough to run and the scenery was beautiful! There were still some patches of ice on the roads, so you had to be careful. I thought the race was handled extremely well due to the weather conditions. The post race set-up was great and flowed really well. I even loved the neon green finisher’s shirt!

The hills!! If you plan on running this race, you had better get your hill training in or this course will break you. The scenery is beautiful and Austin has tons of fantastic places to have a post-race feeding frenzy. You should definitely take hydration with you, as there aren’t enough aid stations throughout the race. Also, the winding path of the race through the heart of the city can make it difficult to drive your car anytime immediately following the race, so pay attention to where you park if you are not staying in a hotel in DT Austin. I look forward to running it again!
