This is the 2nd year for this race. Running on the runway is a fun start to the weekend.

Packet Pickup – Easy, but the location was not overly convenient. Race day pick up is tough when your car is parked 2 miles away so you have nowhere to put your stuff, but the process was simple and the folks nice.

Race Day – Parking was available at the airport lot for $6 and you were shuttled to the start. It was a very smooth process, but paying for parking is always a downer. The shuttle service was quick and easy. The emcee of the event was great. He’s really got a knack for hosting events. He kept with the theme and was fun to listen to. Plenty of porta-lets at the start.

Race Start – The starting line is very congested and and there’s no where to expand since you’re on an airport runway, but once you get moving there’s plenty of space along the route. The start is the only area that’s tough.

Post Race – The medals are fun and the shirts were great. I had a hard time finding food and water at the end of the race, but eventually came across some. The shuttle back to the car was quick and easy, but I left as soon as I was done running and didn’t hang around. I could see a line forming as folks started to leave, but the ride was short and people moved quickly so I can’t imagine it being too much of a hassle.

Registration and pre-race communication was ok. I feel like they could have sent a few more emails. I kept looking for information on packet pick up and instructions on Facebook or the website. Feel like they always had 2017 info listed.

Race day was fairly smooth. I didn’t have issues parking, but if you get there later in the morning I’m sure parking might have been tough to find. Packet pick up was uneventful, but the line did get long close to the start, so maybe having a few more people checking runners in would have been good. A few more port-a-lets would have been nice also. The audio was tough to hear in the back of the starting line. I couldn’t even hear the national anthem. The course was nothing spectacular and it’s a similar course to many other runs held in this area. It’s a very popular spot for races. The course was well marked and security was plentiful.

Post race was nice, but I had to search for water after the race. I finally ran up to a vendor and asked them for some water, because I couldn’t find any.

The shirt is nice, but a women’s cut would have fit better. The medal is on par with other races of this length and price. Not sure what I’ll do with the socks.

Overall, it’s a no frills type race that’s not too difficult. Some upgrades needed, but not a bad race to run.

Packet pick was easy and available on race day if you weren’t able to pick up early. Parking was free and plentiful for the race.

The start was well done, but starting the 5k 30 minutes after the full/half was a bit unnecessary. Many races run them right after the other, but I guess a course adjustment was needed for the 5k and we had to wait until all full/half runners were past the part of the course that needed the adjustment.

Course was easy and through a neighborhood. Some of the neighbors came out to cheer on the runners and that was a nice touch.

Post race food/drink could have been a bit better. Much of the drink was soda and juice. Water was available, but soda seemed to be the most in supply. Food a lot of junk food, but they did have bananas.

This was the first year for the race so it went well given the first go round. Looking forward to future races.

Packet pick up was easy to access with free parking.

The race is located in a newly developed music center. Access to the race was easy, but parking was paid only and was supposed to be $8, but on arrival we were told it was $10. They didn’t provide any other parking options, but I’m sure there were other garages available.

The start of the race could have been better organized. Runners couldn’t hear when their race started and some started late, because later racers were standing int he corrals. The course was easy out and back on city streets. It was well marked and the path was wide.

Post race activities were plentiful with live music. There was plenty of post race food and water. The medals were awesome and well done.

Overall not a bad race.

This is the second year I’ve done the Rock n Roll 5k and if not for the early bird pricing I probably wouldn’t do it, because it is pricey for a 5k if you don’t get in early. The 5k always seems to be an afterthought compared to the half marathon.
Expo: Compared to some other large races, the expo is terrible. Only a handful of vendors and a number of them aren’t running related. It’s also a shame they can’t find a spot for packet pick up that’s not downtown. Paying for parking is fine, IF the expo was worth it, but in this case it’s not.
Race: The course is very flat and mostly run along a route that’s not public roads, so you do have to watch your step as you transition from road to sidewalk along the way, but it’s overall a very easy course. There is one water station and that seems appropriate for the length. There’s not a lot of music along the way, but the band at Mile 2 was engaging the runners as they went by. Parking is free and it’s not a long walk so that’s a plus.
Swag: The medal is one of the best you’ll ever get for a 5k. It’s heavy and well made.
Post race: They do have a band playing, but most people are grabbing their medal and heading out. They really don’t stick around as there’s not much to do after the race.
Volunteers: They do a great job from start to finish. Always helpful and very encouraging along the way.

This is a very small race, but I see it growing each year. The course itself if very flat and easy to run. Some pieces were run on sideways between A&M buildings, but the course was well marked and volunteers established to guide you. The shirts run very, very small. This is one area that needs to be improved on. It’s not a tech shirt, but they do have mens/womens cuts. The medal is Texas sized! It’s huge and the best medal I have in my collection. I look forward to doing this race next year. It’s during a busy race time, but worth the trip.
