This marathon was well ran, even during Covid-19 times. We were socially distanced with a wave start (masks on until we crossed the line). Packet pickup was held outdoors. They had race merchandise for sale, bonus, for such a small race. Loved the race shirt and large colorful finisher’s medal. The water stops were plentiful and full of volunteers, all masked. Porta potties were placed at every water stop. The course is point to point, almost entirely along the beach, with the exception of the last 3-4 miles, where it veered onto an out and back along the highway. Was not a fan of that part!
We finished outside the ball park, due to Covid, and no post race party, which was sad, but understandable. The only challenge with this race is the weather. It’s very humid in the gulf, and windy! Really enjoyed our stay in Biloxi. Highly recommend this race.

Pros:
Flat and scenic course
Easy race logistics. Bib shirt and pick up at Dick’s Sporting Goods was a breeze.
Nice medal and a finisher’s towel too.
Savannah is a fun place to visit
Cons:
On the course there were very few restrooms.
Plastic cups at water stops and also handed out plastic bottles, which were littered along the course (in high end gated community).
Too few water stops, but I carried a bottle.
Lots of turns, some of which are unmanned (with arrows). I never got lost, but sometimes I’d think I missed a turn because there was nobody else around me.
It can be a very lonely run. I’m glad I had my music!

I was surprised at the level of difficulty on the flat, trail section of the course. There were roots and rocks hidden by leaves at times and several people took spills. I nearly fell more than once. Also, bring a water bottle! There was no water between mile 4 and 9 and very few other stops on the course.
The “hills” in the battlefield are no joke. Very steep! Lots of walking on some of them. When you leave the battlefield there continue to be hills, but mostly rollers until the last steep hill on campus.
The post race party at the Bavarian Inn was a blast.
Love the shirts, love the clay medal. I loved the uniqueness of this course, but it’s the hardest marathon I’ve ever done.

With a 7:15 start it warmed up pretty quickly with full sun. The canopy of trees on the trail helped, but the heat still got to me. I carried a bottle and never had any lack of water issues, and it was always ice cold.
The trail was in great shape and easy on the body.
Great medal and tank tops. Bag check a breeze. Finish area had everything, even beer, but in addition to your wristband you had to have your paper raffle ticket or no beer. Seriously, fix that.
I’d say proceed with caution unless they move the date or start the race sooner (the sun is up by 5:00 AM). The course, it is gorgeous!
