This race was run by pro’s. Easy to park, great time trial start, mostly flat course, very well run. No frills but worth it for the cost.
My only con is that water stops were farther apart than I would like have liked (3- 3.5 miles for some). But otherwise, there really wasn’t anything to complain about except for my own brain that did not show up!
There is no swag, no medal- just a little ribbon. But the race costs $26.20 and they are very clear about this. I wouldn’t suggest it for a first timer as the medal and fanfare is a big deal for the first. But for those needing a reasonable course to BQ- this is a great one. I think I read 27% did BQ. I would run it again if I needed a good course for a BQ.
The course was slightly uphill and slightly downhill the entire way. Only one real hill at the half and finish but not bad by any means.
The marathon was out and back twice on a paved bike trail. Not a great deal to see but the nature was pretty. There were places at road crossings for cheering sections at several points. The volunteers, staff, police, etc were excellent- very supportive and helpful.

Pros:
Expo was small but easy to get in and get my bib. I needed throw away gloves and a race belt and they had both so I was happy.
The volunteers and police were wonderful. Everyone was supportive and pleasant. Music was promised and I did not expect it with the cold but there was a DJ earlier on and one live pair of musicians who were
Aid stations were lively, fun and had a good selection.
The buses were extremely easy to get to the start and back to the hotel. No wait at all.
The course was pretty much flat as advertised.
I thought the post race area was fun and had plenty of places to sit.

Cons:
Out of anyone’s control- the weather was unseasonably cold. The headwind on one side of the river was gnarly- knowing we had to run it again later was very difficult mentally.

The trails. The trails that everyone ran (packed dirt) were okay. Still difficult as there were tree routs and holes which is hard at 22+ miles. But they were still reasonable.
The trails that only the marathoners ran were upsetting to many. 2-2.5 miles and more technical than I have seen in any road race. I saw one ugly fall and heard of another. I did not fall but my ankle was sore after the race from ‘nearly’ falling a few times.
The marathon runners ran the out and back on the trail (miles 9-11ish) and then entered the bike trail at the same spot but behind most the half marathon runners. There was not enough room to pass without a great deal of weaving.
Bathrooms. There are not enough port-a-potties for the number of runners- especially at the beginning. The lines were huge and there was not enough time to wait before the race start.
Cool city and I think I would run the half but not the marathon again unless changes are made.

I drive from Central NY every year for this race. The atmosphere, production, food, support….all absolutely excellent.
I have run the 12 hour twice and the 24 hour once. The course is a lollipop 4 mile loop. At registration you receive a chain with a dog tag. Every loop you receive a token with the loop number to add to the chain. You can either take it or collect them later or hand them off, etc. Mostly flat but there is one hill every loop which most people walk. At night there are lanterns lighting some of the darker paths.
The food is excellent. As a vegetarian there are plenty of options for me to choose throughout the day and night.
There is music at different times and movies and karoake are played for the support crews. Camping is allowed.
I learned about this race from a friend and I’m so glad I gave it a try. I’ve always had such a good experience at this race even when my body stopped cooperating.

I run the full once and a half many times. In addition, I’ve also gone every year to support, friends and family.
The course is fast and beautiful. Net downhill with only two or three Hills on the course that I can recall.
The buses are incredibly easy to take to the start of both the half and the full.
The expo is one of my absolute favorites. Well, the expo itself is not huge compared to some of the “big” races, it has a great selection. In addition it’s held at the glass museum, which is so much fun.
The handmade medals- while delicate- are beautiful.
The quaint town of Corning has lovely restaurants and shops.
My only two negatives are that the closest hotels jack up their rices so high it’s absurd and unfair to regular runners. I also wish there was more course support out there from crowds. It’s quiet yet the beauty makes up for it.
Definitely one to add to your list!

I ran this race 10 years ago and have never gone back. My least favorite out of all my marathons. It’s advertised as no frills and fast. And it is. But I’d take a harder course over running by dirty old abandoned buildings on many areas of the course.
It is well run and easy to get to the expo and race start. But this one was a one and done for me.
