The course is paved and runs through the trees which means plenty of shade. It has small rolling hills. I am the coach for our run club (ages 7 – 11) at the elementary school I teach at. We have used the Hellyer run as our 5k race for the past 2 years. I have chosen this run because it is well organized, and out and back course and well marked for the kids to follow.

This years race was similar to the previous 4 years. The only difference was at the end of the race. They didn’t have water as you crossed the finish line. You had to walk across the outfield to get it. Also, in the past they have had bagels, fruit and other food available. This year they had a small bag of fruit snacks and a bottle of chocolate milk. The run was fine, but the after party was very disappointing.

Other than starting really early, 7:30 in SF, this race is a good one. You run through beautiful Golden Gate part, smelling the eucalyptus and passing a waterfall. There are a few hills but nothing major. There are shuttle busses at UCSF to take you from the parking garage to the race, but it is an additional fee. That was very well organized with minimal waiting. The finish is also well organized and the hot chocolate and fondue was amazing. Best of all, instead of a race t-shirt you receive a really nice full zip running jacket as your swag.

The course isn’t great. It is mostly run on the road surrounding the SJ Giants Stadium. However it is very well organized and the crowd is great, which makes for a really fun run. Every runner is given a ticket to go and watch a game either the night before or night of the race. You finish right on the field and each year they have the World Series trophies set up so you can take pictures with the trophies. I would recommend this race to anyone looking for a fun, local, run. They offer a 5k and 5mile run.

This race is all about Sammy. It is well organized and runs through the trees and around the lake at Hellyer Park. The proceeds go to help Sammy get her treatments and physical therapy. In addition, each year the race organizers split the proceeds and give to a local charity. One year they supported they Children’s Garden Play Park. Another year, I believe it was an organization that helped fire fighters or something important like that. I’m sorry I can’t remember the exact name. Either way, this run is put on to support really good causes.

This run was beautiful. For the majority of the race you are running along the cliffs of Santa Cruz with amazing views of the Pacific Ocean. The only negative was the shirt pick up. The shirts ran small and they were allowing people to select their sizes at the pick up. Unfortunately, for many slower runners, by the time they finished the sizes they ordered where no longer available, because people trade in the shirt they preordered when registering for a larger shirt. That was the only negative. Everything else about this run was top notch.

I don’t enjoy races that take you out onto the street or through neighborhoods. Brazen Races are run though parks and mostly on dirt or paved trails. The Hellyer run goes through Hellyer park on a paved course. You run around the lake and through the trees. The course has rolling hills, but nothing huge. The run was well organized and fun to participate in. This year 2016 I am having my elementary school’s running club participate in the 5k as Brazen does a really good job hosting their events.

Well organized simple course loops through Campbell Creek Trail. Parking is a bit of a walk, you can find parking at Pruneyard mall. The race shirt is a tech shirt and has held up wash after wash. My only complaint is part of the course is run on the sidewalk over the overpass and is a bit narrow.
