It was a wonderful atmosphere and friendly people. The course is all on pavement, running next to the Truckee river most of the time from City Plaza downtown to Crissy Caughlin Park and back. By the time the race started (9 am) it was quite a warm morning for mid-November and it a great temperature to run.
The one thing that was a downer for me was that there were over a 1000 people who raced and due to a first registered-first served policy, only the first 800 registrants received any swag (finisher metal, socks and goodie bag). I knew that that was the case when I signed up, but I kind hoped that there would something else they gave out to the people who did not receive metals– such as one of the shirts they were selling. Or if they had discounted the registration cost for people who were not going to receive a metal, socks or goodie bag, I would have been happier. But that was just a petty thing.

Overall the race was run well, the course was well marked. There were two water stations), the course was flat and it was fun to run. Definitely want this to become a yearly tradition for me.

It has incredible scenery from start to finish, which for the first-timers to experts makes the entire race more enjoyable and entertaining. Neighbors from the surrounding area come to cheer you on, and over the course of the day I saw mini-horses, cows, long-horned cows, a large white pet goose (which was standing with its owner honking at the runners), horses, and acres of vineyards.
There is one large hill from mile 6 – 7 but from that point on it is downhill for the most part through the finish.
