Race management tried to accommodate the heat by allowing the half-marathon runners to start with the marathon runners. Unfortunately, there was no management of the start or attempt at a wave start, resulting in a crowded, unpleasant mosh for the first several miles. Also, parking was jammed with so many people hitting downtown for the 6 am start. The race directors should plan for the heat with managed, waved start times beginning as early as possible and spaced appropriately. As it was, the bike riders, marathon runners and most of the half-marathon runners were all jammed into that 6 am start.

Pros: Nice shirt (but sized very large and loose), nice finisher medal/pin, good food giveaways at the start/finish, low cost

Cons: Late start on a hot day, 10K racers hit a wall of 3K walkers, forcing the runners on to the sand, poor website, lacking timely information on parking, no link to race results

Fast course, one extended uphill stretch that has some very steep sections. The first and last 1/2 mile are on a flat road, so you have time to warm up at the start and sprint to the finish (if you have anything left). Well-marked with tape, signs and flour on the ground. Food at the finish was good. Cotton T-shirt, but still very nice. Only small glitch was the start time was moved earlier to allow for the heat and some folks didn’t get the message. Maybe they need to just plan on the earlier start in future since the last few years have been very hot in September.

Nicely placed and plentiful aid stations with my favorite boiled red potatoes!

The 15 miler (which was only 14.5 on my GPS) starts with a climb up a couple miles, then a loop through a valley which was gently rolling, moderate hills, a short stretch along the Pacific Crest trail with awesome views, then back down on the same trail we went up. The valley loop is on fireroads, the rest is on trails.

Only 300 people participated across the three distances offered, so it was not crowded in any way.

Finish line at the picnic area had chilli and smoothies for runners and their family. Yes, it was canned chilli, heated on a coleman stove, but it definitely hit the spot.

Love the T-shirt and water bottle.

My family stayed near the downtown area, and I was able to ride my bike to the start (only a few miles away), so they could sleep in and meet me later. For those who drove, there was plenty of parking. The start/finish is a nice picnic area with tables, bathrooms, water, dumpsters, etc.

Well run race with good shirt, nice medal, good finish line organization.

Race day packet pickup, makes it nice for out-of-towners.

Generous beer garden, although the beer was not to my taste (hops too strong).

Parking can be tough, so get there early.

Finish line is well organized. Plenty of volunteer support.
