This was my first 50k, and it certainly did not disappoint. The views from Gooseberry Mesa were unreal. The aid stations were well stocked with water, Gnarly, pickle juice, the usual snacks and gels, and even some had quesadillas.

After the first loop around Gooseberry, there is a long trek back on the dirt road you started on, which was tough when it started to warm up, as it was also mostly a steady slight uphill climb. The loop around Grafton mesa was a bit challenging and technical. This was fun, but will definitely slow you down, followed by another uphill climb on a dirt road headed to the finish line.

There were plenty of camping, glamping, hotel or STR options nearby. I enjoyed exploring Zion and the surrounding area and can’t wait to come back.

I would 100% recommend this race to anyone looking for a challenging but scenic course.

This was a well organized event. Bib pick up and parking is smooth. You park at the finish line and shuttles take you to the start line. Lots of port a potties, coffee, bananas and hot chocolate at the start line. The run itself travels down scenic back roads next to a small river, allowing you to appreciate the nearby mountains and rolling hills. The course felt relatively flat, with some gentle ups and downs. Plenty of aid stations along the way. The final couple of miles is less scenic, but travels through Townsend next to the highway along a sidewalk and bike path. Townsend is a cute town to explore, with cafes and restaurants, right outside of the entrance to the national park. I would definitely do this race again

This was my first time visiting Tucson. Saguaro National park is beautiful, so running through the giant cacti is awesome scenery and this race was a good mix of road running and not too technical trails. Adequate aid stations and porta potties along the course. Fun environment. Can’t wait to do more VR races!
