This is a local race but well attended. The Half and 10 k start together and stay together the first 4ish miles. A lot of this is either on the … MORE
This is a local race but well attended. The Half and 10 k start together and stay together the first 4ish miles. A lot of this is either on the bike trail or on a bike lane/sidewalk with an active traffic road so made for a crowded course.
The 10k route then loops back around to join the 5k participants which if you’re around a 10min pace means you’re hitting the 5k walkers. I found myself having to yell “walkers to the right “ more than I liked but weaving around when you’re 5 miles in is not fun.
The race could benefit from having a staggering of the Half and 10k and a later start for the 5k since the path is pretty narrow.

This course was scenic the whole way through which made running through off and on downpours tolerable. Good support and well staffed aid stations.
The last couple miles the pavement was really torn up – hopefully that will be replaced soon and outside the control of the race.

If you, like me, are super fast, and you’re in it to just finish, CIM is perfect. There is a supportive crowd the whole way even with the 5:05 and the 5:20 Pacers (and from years past closer to 6 hrs). The weather is often perfect, as it was this year 2018, and there’s nothing like turning the corner and racing toward the Capital to finish.
