Bathrooms not unlocked until 5:55, half marathon was to start at 6am. The start was delayed by 15 minutes but this was frustrating and didn’t help make the start of the run fun.

No cones or road safety from Ocean Plaza to turn around at state park, traffic was free to drive as runners were told to stay in the bike lane. Didn’t realize there were limited street lights so this didn’t feel safe as cars went by at 35 mph.

Only water at water stops until after the turn around then some had Gatorade. And one porta potty at the north side of each water station, not awful except you would need to cross traffic to use the restroom.

No course management so several people cut the course. I’m back of the pack so who really cares. But, I’m trying my best to catch and pass people. Can’t do that when they are shaving off the route.

The biggest fail, they ran out of medals! I don’t understand how this is even possible.

No sponsors so after party was pretty lame

The expo wasn’t much; two vendors, one sponsor, a DJ and packet pickup. Took about 15 minutes to get through.

The hotel, we stayed at The Lodge, the host hotel. It was great! Clean hotel with great amenities and friendly staff. If you can’t stay there check out the cabins at Gulf State Park.

The run: Started and ended at The Hangout and that was great! Food and drinks available all day! The course is beautiful, running through the state park. Not a lot of support though. Paved trails, stay near the center line it was pretty accurate. The boardwalks didn’t get to slippery and we had rain from mile 20 until the finish line.

The race directors did great with the weather we were expecting and did get. Start time: 70° and sunny. Then 50°, 20mph winds and rain. We had people out checking on us and let us stay on course since we felt comfortable.

The medal was cute and the ribbon is race specific.

The crowd support was absolutely amazing. From start to end there were cheers, signs, music and friendly faces. I am back of the pack and was never crowded. Getting to the start line and family meet up after takes sometime so be patient. Swag? There was none really but lots of merch to buy for a pretty penny! I definitely recommend this race!

As a south Florida runner I wasn’t ready for the hills and that chilly start, 38° F. But, the crowd support was fantastic and so were the views. There were a lot of switchbacks so I never felt alone as a back of the pack runner. Be warned, there’s a bridge at mile 25!
