Fun race, good swag–Nice shirt and medal, and a pint glass to boot! The beerfest afterward was cool. Not super tough, but there were some challenging hills over the last three miles. I think this was the first time for this event, and it showed. The race started 10 minutes late. Some aid stations were undermanned and I had to pass a couple by because they were essentially pouring cups for each runner who stopped. But they had Nuun and each station, and I think two or three Clif shot stations, which is a lot for a half.

I like that this had a qualifying standard. While not hard to qualify, it did eliminate walkers–walkers are awesome and bravo for getting out there, but since I was shooting for a PR, it was nice not to have to dodge as many folks at the beginning. I like that we all got jackets, and that it started very early (it was still dark). The finish by the bay was cool too.

Like the other Rock ‘n’ Roll events, this was very crowded. But the party atmosphere was cool. Lots of excitement before the race. The course took us down Music Row, through some cool older neighborhoods, and finished across a river near the football stadium. Plenty of hills, especially for this coastal SoCal runner. That evening, race participants were treated to a free Martina McBride concert inside the Bridgestone Arena.
Other than the crowds, this was a great destination race. Nashville is a cool town with lots to see and do, and the Smokey Mountains are just a couple of hours away. We made a week of it, and may just do it again.
I recommend the BBQ from just about any place, bacon, biscuits and gravy from Biscuit Love, and hot chicken from Hatti B’s. Just not all the day before the race, or you may miss your time goal due to an unscheduled mid-race pit stop…I speak from experience.
