The course was nice – with hills in the first third and relatively flat for the rest. It was well supported and we got to see some neat things in Salem like the State Capital, Bush Park, the State Hospital grounds and Gear Park. It’s positioned well for anyone running a December marathon somewhere warm.

When I ran this back in 1992 and 3, it was a 10K called the Stadium Run. My 46:15 is still my PR for the 10K distance, and at 53, probably always will be. The course was mostly flat and not very scenic. It started outside Busch Stadium, went down to the brewery, and ended on the outfield warning track. When you finished, they gave you tickets to a game – I seem to remember it was for the Fan Appreciation Day game. It was a staggered start as well, with young dudes starting last. There were no AG awards – just awards to the top 50.
