First I want to start off by saying that I always try to find something positive about all races. I signed up for the bird right after it opened the previous year. All of the reviews bragged about the course being downhill and scenic. Other than one hill, I felt like I was running on flat elevation (not what I had anticipated). The scenery was rows of houses or businesses on unevenly blacktop roads. It wasn’t the picturesque desert scenery that I thought.
I came in injured, so my only goal was to finish. Unfortunately, the weather was horrible-unseasonably cold, rain, rain, and more rain, so not much spectator support (not their fault-it was some very cruddy weather).Biofreeze was promised at every stop, but they ran out an mile 11☹️and heard runners being told they were out of a certain flavor GU gel (my issue with this is you know how many people are signed up to race so be “over-stocked”. I felt bad for the volunteers (most were teenagers) having to hang around in such nasty weather. The rain finally stopped near the end of the race but 🥶
Because of all the rain, the finish fest was more of a mud fest! The volunteers were awesome about over-stocking us with snacks👍
The main meal was the burger and fries – stood in line for over an hour -ran out of condiments. Even if you only ran the 1 mile fun run, you got the burger-something probably needs to be rethought on that plan.
The expo was small-medium and well organized. They were selling previous year’s race shirts for $1.99 – who doesn’t love a race shirt!!!
Bus pick-up was easy and if you run the marathon, you can stay on the bus until the start-there are also plenty of patio heaters.
If you don’t want to worry about parking that morning (which I heard from many was a nightmare and delayed the race by 25min), stay at the Sheraton Wrigleyville West or Courtyard Marriott (bus pick up is there). We stayed at the Hyatt (nice hotel and friendly staff), parked at Cracker Barrel and walked .5 miles to busses.
My husband was there as a spectator, and we drove the day before to all of the designated spots according to the race packet. He tried parking where the designated spectator spots were and was told each time, he couldn’t park there🤔 We are from out of state and sooooo many streets were shut down that Google Maps was even lost. I’ve never seen a race with specific designated spots for spectators that they can’t get to, and then he couldn’t get back to the finish fest. He had to park the car miles away, so the walk after running the marathon iniliated what was left of injured leg😢
At least I can check Arizona off as one of my race states😊

This was definitely one of my favorites. This race was so well put together from packet pick-up to post race food.
Packet pick up is at Corning Museum (small expo but lots of Wineglass race stuff – and great swag bag-1/4 zip pullover, small bottle of wine, and stemless wine glass. I also bought a cute glass pumpkin from the museum.
We stayed at the Courtyard Marriott in Elmira which was about 20 minutes from the runner drop off or from one of the many parking lots. I got there about 5:05 and was one of the first on the busses (think I could have boarded 30 minutes later and would have been fine but I’m an “over-planner)!
The busses take you to the starting point in Campbell at the high school (you can wait inside to stay warm). There are a couple of restrooms in the high school but after 6:30, the line gets long. There are plenty of port-o-potties outside by the bag drop off, and the lines are LONG, so give yourself time!
It was foggy for the first half of the race, but great weather for running. The course is fairly flat and downhill with only a couple of small hills. There was plenty of course support-locals really show up for this race. You run through some cute neighborhoods.
The amount of people cheering you on at the finish really gives you that final boost.
Post race food was good-hot soup, pizza, bagels, fruit, chocolate milk, and energy bars. Everyone we met in Corning and the surrounding areas were so friendly and nice.
I give this race an awesome thumbs-up, and if I lived closer, I would run it again😎

Cincinatti knows how to put on a race even during a “monsoon! This was absolutely the most challenging weather I have ever ran a race in⛈️⛈️⛈️, but the volunteers and spectators were still out in full force. The expo was very well put together with a large amount of vendors and freebies. There was plenty, and I mean plenty of food at the finish line. I’m not sure how scenic the course was only because I could not get the windshield wipers to work on my glasses🤣 I stayed at a hotel in Covington, Kentucky, so getting to the race in the morning was less than a 30 minute walk across the bridge. As huge as the Flying Pig is, it was very well organized. I used the bag check which was extremely well organized. It was a bit of a walk, but I think it seemed even longer because I had to walk in the pouring rain to get my dry clothes. I thoroughly enjoyed this race and highly recommend it so much so that I plan on traveling and doing it again next year. I ran with a hamstring injury, so hopefully I can redeem myself next year “lil-piggy”🏃‍♀️🥓😏

I highly suggest the Palm Beaches Marathon/Half Marathon. It was a very well organized race with LOTS of swag! Garden of Life is the main sponsor and provided at least $100.00++ of wellness products. Packet pickup was easy and held outside under a massive tent-top. There were a limited amount of vendors, but the amount of products we were given made up for that. We stayed at the Hyatt Place West Palm Beach, so the expo and race start/finish were a 10 minute walk. This is not a huge race, so I was impressed with the post-race food which included pancakes/sausage/bacon/fruit/snacks. Also, if you are looking for a flat-race, this is it (lowest elevation -1, highest elevation 17). Cooling towels were available on the course which helped -it was humid and warm but should be expected in Florida! On Saturday morning, there was an outside market that sprawled over several blocks, and there were plenty of places to eat within walking distance of the hotel (did not need a rental car). If you are looking for a “racecation” to escape December’s cold weather, then this is it!

I have traveled three times for this race, and this is my favorite half-marathon! The course is pretty flat with only two “uphill climbs”. Once you get past the first mile, there is plenty of room on the course. I love running through LSU, and the course support is always great. Packet pick-up is well organized with plenty of room to walk around. The after-race food is always good. I really enjoy “racecationing” in the Baton Rouge/New Orleans area😎 This is a definite race for all half-marathoners👍
