We got to the expo at 4pm Saturday and most booths were already shutting down, which was disappointing. We were traveling from out of state so it was difficult to get there before then. We were excited to still have another hour to walk around the expo, but it took about 15 minutes to see what was left.

The race itself was great! The start corrals worked very well. The killer hill at mile 9 was a challenge but the support there was wonderful! Great water stops along the way. Neighborhoods came out to watch and support. Lots of entertainment from Elvis, to a bag pipe player, to all sorts of bands! The finishers chute was another disappointment. The line was a mile long and moving very slowly for food. I’m surprised more people weren’t sick standing in line that long for nourishment. I’ve been a part of large races many times and I’ve never seen anything like it. Seems like handing out a banana with the bottle of water at the finish line would have been beneficial.

Overall it was a fun race. I enjoyed myself and the best part was running through the stockyards. Even with the disappointments, I won’t hesitate to sign up for this one again!

This is a small race. The course is a paved trail along the river. It’s more industrial on the west side than scenic. We ran by oil refineries and a waste water treatment plant. Needless to say, the smell was motivation to run faster! It’s an out and back course with a decent number of water stops.

Finishers food was a food truck, which was fun! The shirts and medals are cute.

This race is VERY hilly! The scenery is great, from downtown to neighborhoods, to parks, to riverside drive. The support and water stops are wonderful. There are lots of spectators out and about the entire way!

A few years ago the start/finish was moved and I did like it better at the park than it’s current location. It was easier for my family to have a place to hang out there until I was done.

I have also volunteered at this race before at the finish line…an experience not to be missed!

This was a fun half marathon. All women (or at least mostly…I didn’t see any men), a wonderful course through downtown OKC, and a smoothie in a champagne flute at the end. It’s also the biggest, heaviest finishers medal I’ve ever seen! I’ll do this one again!
