Overall a great experience as I expected. What I didn’t expect was some of the beautiful redwood groves that we’d run through on the way back and forth to Skyline. Never knew they were even there! Race overall was hard as it was my first 50k and I didn’t really get enough training miles in, but I wanted to do it. The beginning was good over paved trails before about 4 miles in it hits trail, finally! 🙂 This was a modified course from the usual due to construction on the dam and I was told this was harder than normal. If that is so, I want to come back next year and run the normal course because this one was definitely not a jaunt in the park. Good climbs and descents through, and the climb from mile 20-21 was brutal, took about 5 miles to recover from that alone. Overall, I loved the course and will be back for more! Love the BBQ @ the end. Definitely good for some quick protein & carbs to replenish the stores from the 50k. Got a cool tech shirt and a bag of goodies. No medal, but good memories!

This was my first Brazen run, and I’ve been told one of the hardest of their courses. I must say this is also one only the second trail run I’d even done and it showed. I wouldn’t suggest this as anyone’s first half marathon, but once you get into it, it’s a great run with lots of scenery that will make you enjoy it, until the next vertical at least 🙂
