Welcome to the Yuba Gold Trail Runs!
Come see the historic gold rush town of North Bloomfield and the hydraulic mining site of Malakoff Diggins! At its operational peak, Malakoff was outputting 100,000 gallons of water per day via hydraulic mining. The damage to the terrain is still obvious today and the ventilation shafts for the drainage tunnel can still be seen along Humbug Trail. 50K runners, keep an eye out for these on your initial descent!
Presented by SkyBreaker Racing, Yuba Gold 50k is Nevada City, and west Nevada County, California’s only Ultra-marathon. Yuba Gold gets its namesake from the beautiful South Yuba River as well as Nevada County’s rich gold rush history. With 6,000 ft of gain, from the technical Humbug Trail, to the deceptive rollers of South Yuba Trail, to the Missouri Bar Trail climb, this is not your mama’s 50k! And neither is the 32k!
Just outside of Nevada City, CA, in the heart of gold country, the 50k course passes thru Malakoff Diggins State Historic Park. It includes a descent of Humbug Trail, following Humbug Creek down to the beautiful South Fork Yuba River, the forested single-track of South Yuba Trail, climbs of Missouri Bar Trail and a series of Tahoe National Forest fire roads, with a max elevation of 4,700 ft.

That was more difficult than expected
Read the race directors emails prior to running the 50K. It isn't an easy one and the communication gives you the gpx race route. Beautiful course. MORE

Really nice course with great markings, great aid stations and supportive volunteers. Couple of big climbs to test you with some nice forest road where you can really move as well.
Weather this year was unseasonably hot (like 15-20F higher than normal) so times were a bit slower than expected.
Would definitely do this again if it lines up with future races/training plans

My best decision was to use my LEKI poles and have my 2-liter hydration pack with me! It was hot and it was a long way to go from the 3rd to the 4th aid station and I spent a lot of time in the canyon with no shade.
The climbs are absolutely perfect for poles and running downhill as well was comfortable with them.
It is great to use bug spray and the AS have it.
The finisher medal is beautiful!
