Come to the charming German town of Muenster and run the best Wurst Race in Texas! You will have the option to tackle either of our certified races at the distances of 5K or half marathon, which are both entirely on pavement. Runners will start near the heart of the community where they will encounter a lakefront view and a stretch in the scenic downtown area featuring our historic church and the …Sacred Heart school building which is over 100 years old. The half marathon will continue on by the hometown baseball fields and roll into an area that is both picturesque and challenging.
This is a fundraising event sponsored by the Alumni & Supporters. Inc., which exists solely for the benefit of Sacred Heart Catholic School in Muenster, Texas. It is through this organization that we work so hard to save and/or raise money to go toward reducing the cost of tuition for every child who attends our school. Funds raised are also used to assist a variety of needs including building and maintenance, textbooks and athletic expenses. Sacred Heart Catholic School is a preschool through grade 12 coeducational Catholic school, which began in April of 1890 and continues to excel today.
There is a 4-hour time limit (8-12) for competitors to complete the half marathon.
Everyone receives a finishers medal for running the half!!

The Wurst Race Half Marathon benefits a private school in the small town of Muenster, Texas, which means the the entire community gets behind the race and Oktoberfest (of which the race is one activity). To me, this makes the race fun, charming, and rewarding since it’s for a good cause!
The Half Marathon course is challenging and hilly and meanders through Muenster and the surrounding countryside in North Texas. If you enjoy windmills and wide open spaces, you’ll enjoy the scenery. I found it lovely and peaceful. It is important to note that this is not a closed course, so there are some times when you are literally running on the side of a highway with cars zipping by! But, given the small town, it seems most drivers are aware of the race taking place and slow down to help keep everyone safe. (It’s not an especially busy highway and there are plenty of signs…just can be a little surprising if you’re used to closed courses.)
The town and participants are very friendly and welcoming, and I found the folks working the aid stations (often with their small children and extended families in front of their homes along the route) really sweet and so appreciative of the participants supporting the race and their community! This was one of the best parts of the race!
Although the race is well-organized, it is not a large race…I think there were fewer than 50 participants in the Half Marathon. With this in mind, be aware that the swag is fairly simple, but they offered a really cute t-shirt this year and free beer at the end of the race.
If you are looking for a race that will challenge you with hills, is low-key, and supports a good cause, I highly recommend the Wurst Race Half Marathon!

This is a very nice little race. Muenster is a relatively older (Texas) German community in North Texas. They have a few runs up there and they are hilly. This one no exception – the hills go up and down from mile 5 to mile 11. The after party is nice. The Spring version is better attended but the Fall version has the Oktoberfest vibe going for it. If you like good German bier then the Fall race is better than the Spring – if it is American beer you like then the Spring version is better. If you just like beer – both are great. The Fall version has 4 really good German bier taps including Weihanstephaner Premium – one of my favorites. The race itself is well marked and the aid stations are right where you need them. Swag is good and do remember that this is a fund raiser so the money goes to the group it is sponsoring and not in the SWAG but there are plenty of goodies in the bag. A plus is that this is 2020 and it was a real, live RUN!!! Not a “virtual, same as reality,” training run.
