I ran the course in 2023, finishing 2nd overall in just under 1:30. I have to say that I was really disappointed in the race itself for two reasons. First, the course as laid out is poorly designed. The half course is an out and back, but twice (at roughly miles 4 and 9) it goes up a greenway side trail with a 100 ft hill and a sharp turnaround. It appears that this section was added solely to provide runners two passes by an aid station accessible by road. The result was a course with two unnecessary hairpins and unnecessary hills.
Secondly, I led the race for 6+ miles and ran past two consecutive aid stations that were not set up just cups in a sleeve next to a jug on a table. After two inaccessible stations, I had to ask the pace bike if he’d ride ahead to prepare water for the front group. It was just unprofessional. I get that it wasn’t the biggest event, but it was not executed well at all.
