MORE
The Trailbreaker is Waukesha’s home grown running event and has been held annually since 1993. This Waukesha tradition initially consisted of a Marathon, Half-Marathon, and 5K Run/Walk. All three of these events are certified by the USATF and may provide qualifying credentials for other races. This year we are excited to add a 10K event to the Trailbreaker. The Trailbreaker originally was the brainchild of three running colleagues (amigos). Since 2009, the Park Foundation of Waukesha, Inc. (PFW Inc.), has organized and hosted this annual event as a fundraiser for the enhancement of city parks, trails, recreation programs and the urban forest.
Over $150,000 has been generated and re-invested with the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department to “make Waukesha a better place to live, work and play”. The PFW Inc. is a 501(c)3 organization that utilizes funds raised to promote “Community Quality of Life”. All staff are unpaid volunteers. Please consider making a donation!
Marathon
The Marathon course covers approximately four miles of city streets and sidewalks, 15 miles of improved trails (including the Glacial Drumlin Trail), and 7 miles of the Ice Age Trail. Miles 11 through 15 are extremely rugged. Except for the Ice Age Trail, the trail is subject to only gentle grades. Marathon turn-around is the top of the 40′ Lapham Peak tower, the highest point in Waukesha county, with spectacular views of the surrounding lake country. The Marathon has a 6 hour cut-off. Net climb on the way out is 438 feet; the net drop on the way back is 438 feet. Aid stations will be located at miles 3, 5, 7, 11 and 13 with a bag drop at the fourth aid station (behind Saxe’s Restaurant). An annual or daily Wisconsin State Park sticker is needed to park at the Lapham Peak Tower.
Half Marathon
The Half Marathon course follows the initial leg of the Marathon course but has an earlier turn around at mile 7 (aid station 3). It does not include the Ice Age Trail or the Lapham Peak tower.
10K
**NEW for 2017 and the Silver Anniversary of the Trailbreaker! The 10K course follows the initial leg of the Half Marathon course but has an earlier turn around at mile 3.6 (aid station 1). This event is not yet a USATF certified event. All other events are certified.
5K Run / Walk
The 5K course is run entirely in beautiful Frame Park. The route utilizes the paved pathways immediately adjacent to the Fox River. It is a family-friendly event where all ages can participate. This race will end at the Schuetze Recreation Center after the two laps on the Riverwalk have been completed.
