This was my first half marathon. The pacers and volunteers made my first half marathon experience overall good, but I would not really recommend this race unless you like a small no frills event.
-Race course: was short (~12.8 mi), with no mile markers, poor course markings – I almost took a wrong turn twice when I wasn’t with the pacers, plus it was a double out and back
-It was 10 degrees. The race is held in January in MKE so it is known that it will be cold, but there was no support provided from the event for the cold weather conditions. No thermal blankets, no heaters, no indoor shelter, no warm drinks, etc at the end. When I finished, my sweat instantly started to freeze and I started to get seriously cold and had to go try to warm up in my freezing cold car. Thankfully my partner came and brought me a hot coffee and I warmed up in his car.
-Barely any race photos were uploaded?
-The race swag wasn’t great in my opinion, and the smallest size offered for the race shirt is unisex small which is huge.
Overall, kind of ended up wondering why I paid for the race and didn’t just run 13.1 miles by myself. Again huge thanks to the pacers and the volunteers though, I still had fun!

I participated as a pacer, and I completely regret it since I have multiple complaints about this race.
The course was approximately 0.25 miles short, so it’s clear to me that the race director didn’t bother to actually measure the course. I know the race was short since me and every runner all had our watches say the course was about 12.87 miles. Is GPS perfect? No, but there can’t be this many people having this same issue.
There were ZERO mile-markers. As a pacer, it is important to know where each mile is so we can determine if we are on pace or not. The turnarounds were poorly marked since runners were confused on where to actually turn. A simple cone would suffice.
Lastly, my results (and my pace partner’s results) aren’t in the results page. I’ve reached out multiple times to the race director about this and received no response. Race communication is just very poor.
I do appreciate the volunteers since it was freezing, so they get praise for their work!
