It’s time to GET STOKED AT STOKES! The next Sassquad Trail Party is at the beautiful Stokes State Forest in Branchville, NJ – join us for the Thunder Chicken Squatch! Runners and hikers of all ages and paces can sign up for the 7 mile loop or the 17 mile loop. The month of May is National Military Appreciation Month and we will be celebrating the men and women who have sacrificed so much to service our country by offering 50% off entries to all Active-Duty Military, National Guard, Reserves and Veterans! If you are in the Military or are a Veteran, please use the code THUNDERCHICKEN to save 50%! We will recognize all of our military runners/hikers before the race.
17M COURSE: From the Kittle Picnic Area, follow the brown-blazed Stony Brook Trail south until it meets the blue-blazed Blue Mountain Trail. Turn left on the Blue Mountain Trail. You will complete one full counter-clockwise loop returning to this trail junction before retracing your steps back to the start/finish area. The start/finish area will have water and snacks. There will be an aid station with water and snacks at the Stern Mill Camping Area, mile 7.65 and a water-only aid station at Shotwell Road, mile 13.5.
7M Course: From the Kittle Picnic Area, follow the brown-blazed Stony Brook Trail north until it meets the blue-blazed Blue Mountain Trail. Turn left on the Blue Mountain Trail. Follow the Blue Mountain Trail around until you reach Stony Lake. Cross over Kittle Road and turn left on the brown-blazed Stony Brook Trail (you are now on the opposite end of the first trail you were on) and follow it back to the start/finish area. The start/finish area will have water and snacks. There will be a water-only aid station at Shotwell Road, mile 3.
Everyone loves SWAG, right?! YES! All runners and hikers who register for the Blue Mountain Ultra Squatch will receive a handcrafted wood medal and can choose a swag item during check-in (hat, buff, bag, cup etc)! We will also have additional Sassquad gear available for purchase before/after the race.
So what exactly is… “Thunder Chicken”? We are so glad you asked! Long-story-short, one of our runners serves in the US Army and when we invited her on our podcast in March, we found out that her “call-sign” in the Army is THUNDER CHICKEN! And as we mentioned before, May is National Military Appreciation Month, so “Thunder Chicken” was the obvious choice for this race’s name! We will be supporting our charity partner “Operation Chillout” who we have proudly partnered with since we started our race series in 2018. Operation Chillout provides warm clothing to homeless Veterans in New Jersey!
