The Sweet Pea Run 5K & 10K is a great community event hosted by the Big Sky Wind Drinkers, is one of the oldest running races in Bozeman and is held the weekend of the Sweet Pea Festival of the Arts as a liaison event. This is a family fun event as well as a competitive running race offering cash prizes.
The Sweet Pea Run gives free entries to groups like the Cancer Support Montana and is the Big Sky Wind Drinker’s biggest fundraiser. Money is used to give out scholarships to local high school athletes, supports BSWD community fun runs, and offers financial support for THRIVE’s Girls on The Run and RRCA’s Kid’s Run the nation programs.

Ran my first race in MT on vacation, not acclimated to altitude, lots of fast locals. Mostly on road with a small portion on a trail. Temps were cool in early August. Lots going on, parade in town after race. Large arts & crafts festival all weekend is the namesake of the race. A good summer race to check your readiness for cross country.

I ran this run with my 7 year old daughter as her first 5K. It’s the best value around with a $15 entry fee, and the course starts and ends in beautiful downtown Bozeman while following a portion of the scenic Galligator trail. The long downhill finish helps you finish strong, and the crowd support along the way is great. It’s definitely worth running this one!
