We traveled for this race, as did a lot of other people from 40-something countries! Even so, it wasn’t a huge race, there were about 550 total (in the half marathon). They put the flag of your country on your race bib, which I thought was cool!
The race is fully paved, mostly on a bike/walk path and some on roads. This was the most beautiful race I’ve ever done! There was a course time limit of 3 hours, but we kept thinking that was tight since we wanted to stop in so many places to take pictures! As tourists, we were really impressed and enjoyed the race immensely.
Beautiful and one-of-a-kind!

Race starts and ends at the Aquatics center. All paved, loop course, some rolling hills as you run thru a golf course, then along a creek (bridge or two), then just out of town. Ends at the ‘natural springs’ feed hot-water Aquatic center. Folks were friendly, race was maybe few hundred people. Weather was ideal about 45-60 degrees. The light was fine…like a dusky dawn morning throughout the race. Also had a 5k evebt with the Half. The most memorable part was literally running past a hill side filled with 50-80 multi-colored bunny rabbits….that was really weird…you’d have to see it to believe it. Other than that the scenery was o.k., but not what i’d call ‘true’ Iceland.
