Sundial Shadow is Alpine Running’s newest race. This point-to-point 50K and half marathon trail race follows the Sacramento River along single-track trails finishing at the iconic Sundial Bridge in Redding, CA. Situated in Turtle Bay, the Sundial Bridge is one of the largest working sundials in the world. Join for a fast and fun day of racing in Northern California where the weather is usually very mild (upper 60’s/low 70’s). Bring the entire family as there is something to do for everyone.
If you are looking to get a personal best for a trail 50K, this may be the one. With only 2000 ft of gain and 2500 ft of loss, it will be quick. The course consists of 85% single track trails and 15% pavement. All of the pavement is at the end, where you will run the last 4 miles of the course on the paved Sacramento River Trail. You will be well supported with 4 evenly-spaced fully-stocked aid stations.
The super fun half marathon course will take you along the Sacramento River as you make your way to the finish at Turtle Bay. You will be shuttled out to the start line where you will join the 50K course for the remainder of the race. Due to the accessibility of the the start location, the course sits at 13.9 miles (yes, we know it’s just over a half marathon – you got this!). The final 4 miles is on the paved portion of the Sacramento River Trail leading to the Sundial Bridge. It’s a great Spring race to get the season started! The course is 66% single track and 33% pavement with 700 ft of gain and 1000 ft of loss with 1 fully stocked aid station.
